Re: Lucille Roberts
I belong to LR and i LOVE their gyms...
i started with the $5 a week... there was no registration, but you pay $25 every 6 months as a service fee.. if you want the gold card, which includes babysitting, Zumba, Just Dance and usage of ALL their gyms, its $6 a week.
i did that for about a month and then they had a promotion for 2 year contract which came out to about $17 a month, so i signed up for that...
i have the gold card and i have to say its great.. i go to the Massapequa, Plainview and RVC gyms...
the treadmills/elliptica/bikes all have sign in sheets, each slot for 30 min, so i am not sure how people become territorial for the equipment. i for one haven't encountered that yet.
i did the $6 a week just to make sure i was going to want to go to the gym and continue with it. (the weekly has no contract)

Re: Lucille Roberts
This is where I go. I have to be honest with you, its not exactly the best gym out there; but it is good, as far as classes are concerned.
For starters, the cardio equipment is limited and time restricted. They allot you 30 minutes, which in my opinion, doesn't really help when your training or trying to lose weight (45 minutes would be more suffice). So I'm not going to lie; I sign up twice, even though you're not suppose too, and sometimes, believe it or not, they get snotty about it. But I don't think its right to have 30 minute time slots...its pointless.
You do have a choice between ellipticals, treadmills and stationary bikes for cardio. Unfortunately, they don't have step machines or row machines, like other gyms do. And the machines are very limited, especially during peak hours (am, before 10, and after 4PM).
The weight equipment is reminiscent of circuit training and they don't have a lot of the machines that you would see at other gyms. While they do have free weights, they lack newer versions of weight training equipment. For instance, the gym I go to doesn't have kettle bells.
Classes are probably their strong suit, like Zumba, and my gym is now offering boot camp, which seems enticing.
The only other downfall I feel are the hours. While other gyms open at dawn, this gym has very inconvenient hours (for some anyway)- Weekdays 8AM-9PM, weekends 9AM-1PM (or 2PM, not sure if thats the holiday schedule).
Which one are you considering going to?
I go to RVC, and I think the classes there are pretty good. In the Peak AM (8-10) and Peak PM (5-7:30), however, good luck getting a treadmill or elliptical l (you won't get one, and thats where I think that whole territorial thing comes in), and, my biggest peeve, is that they never open on time. They are usually (during the week) 5 minutes late everyday. You would think they would be 5 minutes early, so that they can count the drawer. There is always a crowd outside in the am waiting to get on a machine.
However, for $6 a week, I would say its worth it, you just have to adjust your training a little.
I hope you find this helpful. Its just my opinion, and I have been a member since 2010.

Re: Lucille Roberts
Territorial meaning if you sign up for "their" time slot, or "their" piece of equipment that they usually use, they get nasty.
I live in Suffolk, so I won't be going to any of those locations. I would be mainly going for classes since I have an elliptical at home already.
Thanks for the help
P.S. I didn't realize you could just sign up online, easy enough. There is a $29 registration fee, I guess they changed it. Then it appears they charge a $15 fee every six months. Still a good deal though.
Do all of the locations have babysitting?

Re: Lucille Roberts
I love the classes at LR. I have been a member out in Suffolk for years adn years. I have the gold card for $11 a month. I wish they offered more classes honestly. It's the only thing I do there and they pack out a lot.
Stony Brook has babysitting. Commack moved to a new store front close by the old one, but I havent' been in it. I'm not sure if they have babysitting.
