Up til how many weeks did you commute?
Hi,
I take the LIRR to Manhattan every day and back. Then, I have to take the subway to work. I am almost 27 weeks now and the commute is starting to wear me out. I was planning on working till 36 weeks but, now I am wondering if I need to stop earlier because of the commute. Just wondering when you did/plan to stop commuting...

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
I only commute to Queens via the LIRR so I'm planning to start driving to work starting at 30 weeks. I'm just so uncomfortable on the train and with the walk I have from the station to work, slippery icy sidwalks make me nervous. If I was going to Manhattan I would definitely try to stick it out until 36 weeks just because I wouldn't want to drive in and I don't get much time off for maternity leave. I guess it depends on your situation with time off and finances. Good luck! I feel your pain!

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
With ds I commuted up to 34 weeks then worked from home until my due date.
There is no direct subway to my office so I have to walk from Penn. I hope to start working from home one day a week in the next couple of weeks and then 4 weeks prior to my due date my dr wants me to work from home. If I didn't have the option to work from home though I would drive back and forth that last month just in case.
Plus if one more person pushes into me or plows through me I'm gonna lose my mind.

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
I feel your pain! I work by Wall St and have the same commute. I am only 18 weeks but I have bad sciatica. I would think around 30 weeks I would want to stop the commute. Can you work from home at all?

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
With DS I stopped commuting at 38 1/2 weeks because it snowed and my boss was nervous that I would go into labor at work. Around 36 weeks I started working 2 days from home though. After 30 weeks, I started working a steady 1 day from home.

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
My plan is to commute until the end unless I get put on bedrest or something. I just really would rather have the time with the baby than sitting at home pregnant.
That said, I'm 24 weeks and it's getting harder every day.

This is what I'm planning to do as well and my commute is hour+ so I have no clue if I will be able to last. I am 28 1/2 weeks now and the only thing that is helping the situation is that we haven't had snow and DH commutes with me. I feel safer in case something should happen.

I plan on commuting until the end of June. My due date is 7/7 and until LO comes I'll be working from home. But as long as all goes well I'll be commuting until almost the end.

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
I also worked in Manhattan, all the way downtown, and the commute was killer. I worked up until 37 weeks. My boss would have preferred I work another week but I was way too nervous. It was also July, and 100 degrees out, so that made the decision easier

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
I commuted up until 38 weeks (LIRR and subway) during last summer. My dr said it was up to me, but that i could potentially deliver anytime 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after my due date - so i should consider if i wanted to be that far away from the hospital. I had some vacation time saved up, so i took 2 weeks vacation before my maternity leave started and i was so glad i did it. By that time, the commute really was getting to me and i didn't want to take any more chance of something happening and me being in the city
i ended up delivering one week late, but there's no way i could have commuted after i stopped.
i say talk to your dr and see what they say. ultimately, you know how much your body can take and when you want to stop.

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
I plan to commute until the very end.
But with DD I stopped around 38/39 weeks and just worked from home. That wasn't because of the commute though but rather the swelling.
DD was 10 days late so I am actually hoping that the commuting coupled with the 15 minute walk to/from the subway to my office will help this baby come earlier!
That said, I am 21 weeks and already getting uncomfortable.

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
Girl, I hear ya! I think I made a similar post at the same time. I worked until 36w. However at 32w I was put on bedrest for 2w and that was a blessing. It was right around the holidays and was perfect recoup for me. That commute is fcuking torturous! I would swell soooo badly. Be uncomfortable. Get pushed around in the subway train. Crazy shitt. Lots of for you! Oh yet when I was done at 36w, I was so proud of myself for surviving! You can do it!

Re: Up til how many weeks did you commute?
I'm 24 weeks and take the LIRR and subway every day. I plan on commuting until the very end. Only thing that will stop me is if my doc says it's not safe for me to do so. I also have to fly every other week...hoping May comes really soon!
