This is ridiculous.. Runners?!?
Do you lose athletic endurance in just 4 days? I was out of commission for a few days because I was pretty sick. I started up again after just 4 days, and damn my run was harder than usual. I'm not sure if it was the little break I had or the fact that I still have a cold. What causes this? Very annoying since I'm trying to train for a half marathon.
I feel like I have to run every single day to keep my endurance up. Do you notice this as well?

You're just still recovering. I had the same thing this week. I took 3 days off because i was having horrible hip pain. I went out yesterday planning on doing 5 miles I made it 2.5. I started to get really down on myself, but realized that we all have off days especially coming back from an illness.

totally agree...I often skip 3 days at a time; I don't think it's that, I think it's that you were sick.

Every now and then even if I'm feeling well, I'll just have a miserable run. My body aches, I struggle to breathe, my legs hurt or something. Don't worry, you didn't lose it!

Re: This is ridiculous.. Runners?!?
Your prob still battling whatever sickness you had- but yes you def can lose stamina if you dont keep up with that cardio- if you care training for a half marathon you have to run distance atleast 2x per week- then as you get closer to the race increase it to every other day so you can increase your speed- otherwise your body will hit a wall and you wont be able to push it at the end of the race when you want to.

same for me! somedays i can run 6 or 7 miles easily, and then other days i can barely hit 3. often it depends on how much sleep i get, what i've eaten, etc. don't get discouraged - you'll probably be fine by your next run.

I agree that it's probably just getting back into it. I have read that for every day you take off (I think it's after 1 week though) you need 2 runs to make up the difference.

What do you consider "distance?" I think we must have two different thoughts on this.

I was thinking the same thing Erica!
I would say you need one quality "distance" long run a week. I would run 10-14 miles (80-100 minutes). If I was doing that every other day, I would burn out.
On top of the distance run, try to run at least 3-4 other times a week (~5+ miles or 45-50 minutes).

You are still recovering from being sick. It took me a good two weeks to get back to a good run after a sinus infection.

It usually takes about a month of doing nothing to lose everything you have built up. You body is probably still realing from being under the weather. Rest well and come back strong!
