BTDT - Epidural??
I happened to be working from home and have TLC on in the background. This woman is getting an epidural. Stupid question but how bad is it honestly. I know once its in you don't regret it but is it really that painful to get it? I don't know why I am watching this!! Lol...

The needle that they prick you with to numb your back hurts the most. When they put the epidural needle in, it is more pressure than anything. You feel like someone is pushing your spine really hard.

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
Honestly I was so blinded by the pain of the contractions I didn't even feel the Epidural. I was more concentrated on holding still through a contraction while the anesthesiologist administered the Epidural.

Exactly the pain of the contractions were so awful that I didn't even feel the epi!

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
I was petrified of the epidural. I really wanted to hold out and see how far I could go because I was so afraid. After 12 hours of consistent contractions, and them telling me it would probably be about another 12 hours I HAD no choice...I had to get some rest and there was no way I could with that pain. Like the other ladies posted...the numbing needle hurt the most and then lots of pressure...uncomfortable but not as bad as I thought. For this next one, I am getting the epidural apon arrival...there was no need to suffer like that for so long!

Sitting still was the hardest part.
And that epi was heaven sent!! Thank god for it!!!

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
I was petrified of the epidural I got it with DS#1 and OMG what a relief I felt. I had no pain
Def pressure in your back then it went numb...unfortuately they messed my epi up and I had to get it redone 3 times!!!
The only pain i had from it was after it wore off my back was sore in the three spots then put it in
But with DS#2 I am alllllll for the epi!

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
I am a big baby when it comes to pain and I personally didnt think it was that bad. You feel a pinch and a tiny burn and thats it. I didnt feel anything go through my spine, but i did feel as if something was going through my leg and I also got this cold wet liquid feeling. As if cold water had dripped on me, but it didnt. But the pain fromt he EPI is nothing compared to contractions.

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
I was super nervous about it... but now, I couldn't even tell you about the pain- it was nothing in comparison to everything we have to go through... but what I do remember is the doctor administering it was teaching a student and I remember him explaining every detail of the shot and the location, and what NOT to do! That scared me more than anything!

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
I did a health internship when I was in HS and saw a lady get one done, so I think it may have been worse for me. I was so preoccupied with the memory of that women and knowing that you can not move if it hurts I think I stressed myself out. The anesthesiologist was my best friend after giving me that! BEST part of delivering

This and the "zing" that you feel go down your legs... but it doesn't hurt... cuz like the pps have said, the pain of contractions are more intense then anything that you really don't feel it at all...

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
I am a total pain wimp and I don't remember feeling the epidural at all. As someone else said it was hardest to sit still b/c the contractions were so painful.

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
the only thing i remember about the epidural was trying to hold perfectly still through the contractions, a shooting pain down my right leg - almost like an electrical shock (this lasted for two seconds but to be honest, it was not pleasant) and then just the sheer pleasure after it kicked in I wanted to hug everyone

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
4 different people made 5 attempts to get an IV in me in order to start my induction. That was much worse than the epidural.

Re: BTDT - Epidural??
Well i had mine 9 days ago and i can honestly tell you it's not bad at all.
At least for me it wasn't. It didn't really hurt me. What i was more concerned about was him hurrying up before another contraction started.

agree, I was also having contractions at the same time while getting the epi. It took about 15 mins to kick in. I did feel it at the same time
