NSLIJ (plainview) Moms
Private rooms - what is the status at NSLIJ? Do you automatically get one?

Re: NSLIJ (plainview) Moms
DH's cousin had both babies there and had a private room both times. They don't know anyone there but had to pay a little extra for it.

Re: NSLIJ (plainview) Moms
I delivered twice there. First time I got a private room, no extra cost, and I don't "know" anyone there lol. Second time, it was a full moon and 25 babies in the nursery, I had to share. So it really depends on the circumstances.
They have 4 LDRP's, so if you are lucky enough to get one of those, you labor, deliver and stay in that room. They have 5 private rooms, and the rest are doubles. I was told they try to put only one person in a double room as long as it isn't busy.

It also depends on your Doctor. Some Doctors get preferential treatment.
I was in a double room with no roommate. The extra bed was great for storing stuff so I didn't have to bend down.
Don't forget your 'last' meal. It was super yummy.

Re: NSLIJ (plainview) Moms
they told me it depends on the day and your circumstances. i was lucky enough to get a private room because of the time that i delivered and how quick it was. a nurse told us they usually like to give it to patients that have vaginal births because you are only there 2 days as opposed to 3-4 with a c-section.
and yes, don't forget your last meal. they didn't tell me about it until it was too late to order it. hopefully i'll remember next time!

Re: NSLIJ (plainview) Moms
I delivered there 6 years ago and I was not in a private room. I did have a roomate for my first night. I had a c-section and they were bringing the other mom's baby in every few hours for on-demand feeding, and it was hard for me. I hadn't gotten out of bed yet and didn't know if I could, I was barely sleeping and was upset because my little girl was in the NICU and I couldn't go see her. I went a day without holding or feeding my baby.
I didn't complain about it...but the nurses seemed to understand anyway. When my roommate went home the next morning they kept me in the room by myself. SO although it was a 2-person room, I was able to be alone in it the rest of the time which I really appreciated.
I think it depends on how busy and crowded it is there, but they do try to give you as much privacy as possible.

Re: NSLIJ (plainview) Moms
I just delivered there almost 3 weeks ago. I got put into a private room. Some rooms are bigger than others.
I was told during the hospital tour that they do their best to keep you in a private room but if there are a lot of deliveries, some people may have to share.

Re: NSLIJ (plainview) Moms
You can request one but only get one if available. Had two births there. Both got private rooms.
