Random: Does anyone "make fun" of your workout choice?
I go to Bikram yoga as my work-out of choice.
I am NOT a gym person and if I were to try to run I would probably pass out dead on the ground.
In any event, whenever I tell people I do hot yoga, I feel like they look at my like I have 6 heads and then they have to go into all the reasons why this is "bad".
Note: I don't think half these people workout, let alone have ever tried this style of yoga.
I know I shouldn't let it bother me because it is THEIR issue but sometimes it does.
Discuss!

I run. Pretty much every person who doesn't run tells me how awful it is for me, my knees, shins, back, etc.
Then they tell me excuses why they cannot run. My favorite one was my mother in law who told me her legs were to short to run. What an idiot!!

That's funny!
I would love to go to the gym or run but am not motivated by these personally, but greatly admire those who do.
I just don't get why people have to be so negative. (Such is life!)

Same, people often tell me I shouldn't run because it's bad for me. I'm quick to remind them that my running is harming me less than their complete lack of exercise is harming them.

I mainly run. I've learned to downplay the # of miles I run because when I tell people how much I run a week, usually I get a weird look like I am some sort of freak.

I do dance dance revolution on the Wii. I hate working out and have no time to go to the gym. This is the only way I enjoy it and I really work up a sweat.
People when I tell them this is how I work out but I've lost almost 8lbs this month so I must be doing something right.

I hate running , I consider it torture! I wonder if people who run marathons are a little crazy My cousins wife is a runner and an avid marathon person. I do "tease" her but she knows I'm very proud of her. Don't take it personally. Hot yoga sounds like torture too though

People just make fun of the fact that I exercise as much as I do. I have been afraid to tell people that I am training for a competition because I don't want to get teh eye rolls. I think it comes from feeling insecure about their own exercise or lack of it!

Re: Random: Does anyone "make fun" of your workout choice?
Before i became PG, my workout of choice was also Bikram (which I miss sooo much BTW). I actually hated talking about it because the were non stop. I always get comments about how it's so 'trendy' now. I think those that comment about our workout choices are just being haters!

That's funny.
I've actually never heard anyone call it "trendy".
The latest comments were that it must be gross and so germ infested and why would I want to expose myself to growing bacteria during the wintertime.

Wow I've never had anyone pass the germ infested comment to me! Where I live, there's new studios opening up everywhere. So I think that's why people call it trendy. Why can't we all just do our thing in peace???

Re: Random: Does anyone "make fun" of your workout choice?
I recently took a pole dancing class with a friend from work--but I made her promise not to tell anyone! I was embarrassed because I gained weight and I don't really look like the type to be all sexy on a pole. I only went to one class but let me tell you, it was tough!! I always saw these made for TV movies with the small town girl hittin' the pole and start swinging around it on the first try. I could barely lift myself on this damn thing! I'm not sure I will go back-I have been taking other classes at this studio that are more suited for me.
I have friends who take hot yoga and my reaction is always because I think I would pass out within 5 minutes.--but that's nothing against them! I give them so much credit and they love it. (I guess I should try it! )

My friend's bother is an orthopedic surgeon and he says (with a wink) that running is bad for you, most of the people he sees are runners.

People like to make fun of the fact that I work out in general. I'm naturally thin, so they "don't see a need" A lot of these people seem to firmly believe the only reason to work out is to lose weight.

Someone actually said to me that they don't understand how dance is athletic or can give you any kind of work out.

When did a lot of Zumba, I know I was made fun of....
Now that I don't do it as much, the same people are confused, wondering what happened to their Zumba friend!

Obviously spoken by someone who has never taken a dance class!

Some Will Some Won't So What!
You are doing something you love to do, convincing others is not your job. If you are trying to convince them, the you are forcing your view point on them. If they ask you first, and they get mad at you for telling your story, then heck, why are you asking me? Third, if they ask you and they don't like the answer. Maybe you are coming off too strong. Back off!
Ultimately, I beleive we all think what we are doing is awesome, but some people are afraid, others really have no time, others really don't care, and there will be a few who will want to do it!
Your time is too valuable for you to waste it on other who aren't listen.
Keep up the Yoga and any ventures you will do!

I really don't understand why people think working out is automatically for weight loss. I go for a slew of other reasons. In fact I'm not trying to lose any weight at all. I get so aggravated by peoples ignorance with exercise. Some people just really enjoy working out; I am one of those people. I love how it makes me feel!!
People always look at me weird when I say I'm training for a half marathon. I like running. People just don't get it.
