Spinoof: Can anyone recommend someone for play therapy
Our feeding therapist suggested play therapy as my son shuts down whenever food is presented. She thinks it's a major case of anxiety/fear & said the play therapy would truly help him.
After going through every imaginable dr., therapist, OT, etc. we're game for anything.
YET we've hit a brick wall. Our therapist suggested Dr. Yel, but she's not accepting any new patients & then she suggested Kid Esteem; but they don't take insurance up front.
Can anyone recommend someone?
I guess the psych. needs to be versed in overcoming anxiety; etc.
Thx.

I am not sure where you live but UCP in commack has FEAST program in which children "play" with food and get used to being around it in a fun way. It's once a week.

Re: Spinoof: Can anyone recommend a Behaviorist
Thank you for the rec. He basically is doing a variation of that in feeding therapy...touching it; playing w/ it; bringing to his mouth & getting reinforcement for it.
I think we're looking more for 1:1 to change his behavior in regard to food.
As an update the feeding therapist said she is going to get us some behaviorists #'s.
