If you had or thought about a VBAC...
was your DH 100% on board? I am 36 weeks pregnant and we switched to a midwife this time around and were both wanting a VBAC and last night DH told me that he thinks it's too risky and is worried and that I should just ahead with a repeat c-section.
I know that it's not his body but I am his wife and this is his son that I am having and his worries and concerns are important to me. Should I not go for it because he doesn't think I should? I mean, he didn't say "no, you can't have one" he said that it's up to me in the end since I am the one having the baby but that he's really scared and would like me to have the c-section.

I had a successful VBAC. Leading up to it, it was always my DH who was 100% go for it, and I was the wobbly one that was nervous and couldn't make up my mind.
In the end, the delivery went smoothly (aside from the fact that I delivered with an upper respiratory infection and had a complication after) and there were no problems. I labored with an epidural and pitocin. They broke my water.

I had a c-section 6.5 years ago and am pregnant again, due in 18 days! I do have a c-section scheduled again. I feel like I need to have a plan and a date because I won't be having a traditional maternity leave. I babysit for a 3 year old and am only taking 2 weeks off so it would be an inconvinience for the Mom if I didn't know when this baby was coming ... since she has to make other arrangements for 2 weeks.
However my Doc and I have discussed the possibility of a vbac. I weigh less this pregnancy then I did the last time. The baby seems to be measuring smaller also. My first preg she was 9lbs 10 oz at birth which is why we did a c-section. I do not have gestational diabetes this time. So we discussed what happens if I go into labor on my own and progress and he said he would feel confident with me going for a vbac since it's been 6.5 years and I'm fully healed by now.
Now my DH and I --- when we discussed it...basically he was apprehensive because he is afraid he will pass out. He said that with the c-section he jsut doesn't look over the curtain and so he doesn't have to see anything gross. He is afraid he'll see way more then he wants to with a vag-birth.
We'll see what happens!

When I got pregnant again I researched the crap out of VBACs and found an OB practice who would allow me to try for one. DH was always on board as far as I know - he never expressed to me that he wasn't but I also made sure to explain everything to him in detail so he knew what I was getting myself and our baby into.
I was very successful and had my VBAC almost two years ago with zero complications - I delivered at Stonybrook.

It is a scary thing, because the 1% chance of something going wrong is small but the things that can go wrong as very serious.
I wanted to labor at home as long as possible but we were 20 minutes from the hospital with no traffic so we left as soon as my contractions were 3 minutes apart for a while. I wanted to be there just in case.
Definitely talk about it with him more, and see if you can get the midwives to address all of his concerns.

if we get pregnant again, definitely doing a vbac. my doctor has already said there's no reason i can't have one and i healed well so there are no issues.
my c-section experience was too much for me, DH, and probably all the doctors as well. i'm sure we'd all prefer a vbac.

I had a vbac with #2 and it was the best decision ever! DH really didn't care, he thought I should just go for the repeat c/s, but I think he was just scared at how long labor could be and having to see it all 
With #3, I was also going the v-birth route again. But I had a host of complications and the decision was made to do an unplanned, emergency c/s on Friday night. I will say, it was my second c/s and it was 8 years since my first, but holy cow!! Recovery sucks and I much, much prefer a vaginal delivery!

Nope. He wanted me to have a C-section again.
I didn't really care what he thought as his reasoning wasn't for safety. He wanted me to be able to schedule the birth and he didn't want to watch me push 
I wound up having a successful VBAC and I'm SO glad I didn't listen to him

I am struggling with this decision too. My dh is 100% pushing for a c section for selfish reasons if you know what I mean!! Also, he doesn't want to sit around for 24 hours like last time! He is a typical man!

Since my daughter was breech I had to have a c-section. I knew I would try for a v-bac the next time I was pregnant. I went to Stony Brook, they were so supportive of v-bacing. I became a little nervous, like you, questioning whether or not to vbac.
At my 38 week appt, I asked for a sonogram just to make sure he was in a weight range. The doctor didn't want to give me the sono, he said I measured perfectly & they only suggest a sono if there are any concerns. After telling him my conerns he ordered one. Good thing I did have the sono, my son est was 9 lb 15oz. The doctor came into the room and said we strongly suggest you do not v-bac. There was not question from that point on for me.
I wanted you to know if you decide to vbac, I would make sure they order a 38 week sono, to ensure he/she is a good weight for v-bacing. Good luck!!

I was really surprised they wouldn't want to do a growth sono before I tried to v-bac. The funny thing is, I really wanted to v-bac, but once the doctor told me the baby could be 9 lbs 15 oz.,give or take a lb., I definitely was not going to try. After I delivered my son, I remember the nurse said, I'm going to guess he weighs 7lb., I remember for a split second thinking, I could have had a v-bac! Then she said, wow, 8lbs 15 oz. I was so happy to hear that and glad I had a c-section! The c-section was much easier the 2nd time around. Let us know how things go!

Growth sonos can be off by 1-2 lbs... my midwife didn't do them b/c of this high margin for error.
When I get pg with #2, I am definitely trying for a VBAC. My husband is absolutely on board (not so much my mother and sister though, which ticks me off). I think his support is necessary. I know I'm going to need it. We're also looking into hiring a doula.
Since your DH seems worried about the safety aspect, show him some of the risks of repeat sections. That, to me, is far scarier.
Ever read "Pushed" by Jennifer Block? It's an amazing book and it's got tons of statistics on VBAC. She's not an angry hippie on a rant; the stats are based on actual research. Highly recommended.
