Re: Would you let your son do this?
My son is only 20 months but I have every intention of signing him up for dancing school... he LOVES to dance! More than my DD does and she's been in dancing school for 2 years already.
However, there is only 1 other boy in my DD's dancing school and that's the owner's son who is 10 years old I think.

Re: Would you let your son do this?
absolutely!
my nephew is obsessed with break dancing. he's entered in america's got talent for this spring :)
so my brother enrolled him in dance. he works on a lot of hip-hop to enhance his b-boy style ;) and he loves it.

Also, when he gets past the "girls are icky" phase, he'll realize the benefits of being the only, or one of the only, guys in a room full of athletic girls....
There are a huge number of male dancers in the world. If he enjoys it, I would definitely let him do it. Dancing will help him with pretty much any other sport, if he decides to switch later on. He'll learn to be flexible, light on his feet, improve his balance, be in better shape, etc. All of those skills will be useful in any other physical sport.
I agree. Gymnastics too.

Re: Would you let your son do this?
Of course. Just because it's dance doesn't mean he'll be wearing ballet slippers and a tutu :) Dance is for men, too. Look at dancing with the stars, so you think you can dance, etc. I would find a class that is suitable for boys and girls, or just boys and happily enroll him. I think it's great to be physically active and creative, and if it makes him happy, why not?

Re: Would you let your son do this?
i would let my son do dance and let my daughter play football if those were the activities of their choice. would those be our first choice for them, maybe not, but being happy is so important and supporting out kids is key to a happy healthy family relationship...
my mom never let me play trumpet because she said it was a boys instrument, it haunts me to this day how much she let gender stereotypes hurt our relationship
