Ladies who have/had Mirena
Did you have any side effects from it? I know it's hormonal so I was wondering if you got any of the hormonal side effects of say a hormonal birth control pill, like weight gain, bloating, swollen boobs, etc..
TIA!

i don't know if it's the mirena or something else, but i do feel bloated, have gained weight, and my boobs are bigger. i really can't say whether it's because of mirena, though.

See it might be- because of the hormones. This is my main concern. But I heard horror stories about Paraguard and heavy horrendous periods. Ughhhhh

Yes I heard that about mirena too. My issue with that would be I would always think I was preggo if I wasn't getting a period. I am nutso like that!

Re: Ladies who have/had Mirena
No experience but my friend just had hers removed yesterday. She didn't complain of side effects other then she wore a pantiliner EVERYDAY. She said she spotted so much one day, not the next, then the next she did for a few days, then she didn't. It was nonstop so she had it removed.

Re: Ladies who have/had Mirena
I have had mine for about 6 months and I finally stopped spotting everyday. My period is def lighter. The only side effects I have are bloating the week before (which I never got) and dizziness for the first month. Other than that, I have no complaints! Best thing I ever did.

Re: Ladies who have/had Mirena
The Mirena is not systemicmeaning the hormones don't travel through your bloodstream so your not supposed to get symptoms like you get from birth control pills. I had the paraguard and swore I was going to bleed to death when I got my period so I switched to Mirena. So much better but I am not one of the lucky ones that doesn't get their period on it. Much lighter now I only need a liner but it is so unpredictable now that I wear a liner almost all the time because I never know the next time I'm going to bleed.

Re: Ladies who have/had Mirena
I've been using Mirena for a year now. I do love it. But yes the con of having it is not knowing when you'll get ur period. I think I've had it about 4 times and very light. I only use liners where I used to need to change my super plus tampon every 2 hrs. There are no chemicals so you should not have any hormonal issues or side effects that you mentioned.

I'm thinking about getting it and my OB swore up and down that the hormone is so minimal and "local" that there would be zero side effects.
My big concern is infections. A friend of mine that works in an er told me he sees a lot of iud infections.
I'm still on the fence.

Re: Ladies who have/had Mirena
I had it for nearly 5 years. Loved it! No side effects, no periods. The first month was tough, because I spotted all month. Then nothing. I didn't notice any weight gain in the time I had it.
I had it removed and got pregnant 2 months later. I just spoke to my OB again today about getting it now that I just had my baby, and I think I will get it again.

Re: Ladies who have/had Mirena
I too am on the fence about getting this too. It does seem like the ideal form of BC for us after DS #2 arrives, but not sure yet.

Re: Ladies who have/had Mirena
I have it and it took getting use to but now I love it. I had a hard time actually getting it through insurance that's all so I actually had to go through planned parenthood to get it.
