Anxiety about leaving pets while on vacation

We have fabulous friends/ neighbors that pet sit our menagerie for us. We go away for the weekend pretty often but we are leavn on a longer trip tomorrow and for some reason I feel terrible about it. It will be the first long trip we've taken since we adopted our kitty last summer. I know he will be extremely well cared for while we are gone. He will have playmates with his brother- our neighbors cat and my mom is going to come by to visit him bu I still feel bad. Our dog will spend a lot of time at our neighbors which she loves because their dogs are her best friends. The chickens and th rabbit will be fine.
I don't know why I feel like this

Kelly I was just going to post a topic like this the other day.

We are planning a trip to Disney since DD has never been. But I always feel leaving my dogs, thinking about leaving them for so long. Now mind you, my ILs will be with them 24/7 and watch them however I still will worry about them day and night. I have to admit, my worry puts a damper on my excitement about my trips. But I have a child and I have to get over my worry and "take my chances" with someone other than myself watching my dogs. B/c the reality is my child deserves to go on trips and experience that.

But man is it hard for me to think of someone else having my dogs lives in their hands. If I didnt have my ILs or my mom to watch my pets, I honestly would never go away b/c I could never use a kennel or trust anyone else. And I still dont fully trust even family....to me, no one cares for my dogs like we do. They are our babies.

I hear ya Kelly. Its so hard. To me its one of the hardest things about owning a pet. The thought of leaving them breaks my heart. I understand entirely what you feel and although all will be ok, it's so hard. I can totally relate. Just try to have a good time, even though, I know how rough it can be when you love your pets so much and are so used to being with them 24/7.

I totally relate. We are going to e away for 10 days in September and we will be bringing him to a boarding/daycare place. I feel so guilty. I have brought him to the day care before and he loves it! Has a great time playing. But I still feel guilty

I can't wait to get home to my kitty when I'm away.
I've got two long trips this year, each 9 nights long. She goes to my friend's house and I know she is well taken care of.
I guess it is because she is so attached to me that I feel guilty for leaving her for so long.

Awww I completely know how you feel. I was so sad and anxious to leave my dogs when DH and I went on our honeymoon. It was the longest we were away from them and my parents were watching them for the first time.

I thought about them a lot more than I should've considering I was on my honeymoon

We're going on a trip end of April and I was all excited until I realized I'd have to leave my dog somewhere. FIL originally said he'd do it then backed out so now I'm all stressed out about it.

The dog hotel places look fun & she'd love playing all day but I feel awful thinking she'll be sleeping in a cage alone at night

I know how you feel too!!

We've had our Jack Russel for 4 years now; and always leave him with my SIL while we're away. Now we have a new 2 year old rescue Maltese. We're leaving both with SIL for over 2 weeks when we go to Europe next month The only thing that makes me feel better is that they'll have each other to play with and hopefully not miss us as much. I know I'll be thinking about them ALL the time and wondering what they're doing while I'm away. they're in good hands but it's hard not to miss them!

I hate leaving my pups. Last wedding we had to go away for a weekend and I cried on the plane. (friends stay over to dog sit and my mom comes by during the day)

We are getting married in October and the thought of leaving them for 7 nights is keeping me up at night with worry.

I worry bc my lab is a handful and gets very anxious outdoors and I feel liked FH and I are the only ones who can deal with her. But I have two dogs so they are company for each other.

My dog LOVED when we went on vacation. We boarded him at our vet. There were so many other dogs from him to "talk" with and smell, so much attention. So much new stuff to see, smell, hear. The vet assistants paid him so much attention.
It was like a little vacation for him...

Of course, he was thrilled when we came home, but I think he enjoyed his "vacation" almost as much as we enjoyed ours. The assistants always told us how happy he was the entire time. It made it much easier for us dropping him off, knowing that.

we went away for the week and had to leave our little coco with my cousin. I cried after we left her and every day we counted down when we would see her again.

I never thought I would be so attached to a dog like this. But she is our baby. We said from now she goes on any trips with us.
