WW girls--do you gain during AF?
Feeling down...I gained this week, I have AF. I have always gained during AF but since Im WW I hoped to not, I figured I might not lose a lot but did not think I would gain...
Does this happen to anyone else? I feel discouraged..

Re: WW girls--do you gain during AF?
I followed WW hardcore a few years back...and yes, I almost always gained (and once in awhile, didnt gain but also didn't lose) that week. If you look at my books, its always the fourth week out that shows it!
Don't let it discourage you! Even now, I don't follow WW but I do weigh myself twice a week and during that week its a slight gain.
Friggin water retention.

Pretty much any time I had AF! I just wouldn't weigh in that time of the month after awhile because I knew it wasn't a true reflection of my week!

Re: WW girls--do you gain during AF?
I do. I am getting upset this week already because even though I am staying within my points every single day i am starting to look 3 months preggo. i gained about 3 pounds last month and it all came off quickly. I am honestly trying to tell myself it's all AF and I know it is.. but, it doesn't make me feel better when I step on that scale and see an increase.

Re: WW girls--do you gain during AF?
This was just posted on my nutritionist's facebook page!
"Hey Joe, Here is a random question possibly TMI.. do you think hormonal changes so cyclical changes for females would cause water retention causing a false weight increase? I'm curious because looking back to last month and this month I am kinda increasing at the same time."
Answer: Absolutely - several lbs. If you look at a monthly chart of what estrogen and progesterone do - from ovulation to menstruation - there is a predictable and cycle effect. If your cycle is regular, you'll see that. Even in women who aren't regular or predictable, they are changing, just differently and that's frustrating.
A couple of days after beginning your period, you would likely see the water retention decreasing and weight coming back down.

Re: WW girls--do you gain during AF?
Just wanted to add, I don't follow WW but a strict calorie controlled diet and I ALWAYS gain around AF. For the last 3 months I actually see my biggest loss about a week after AF - I typically drop 2-3 lbs in one shot around then (BELOW what I was before AF). So for example, if i was 130 and then during AF was 132, within a week or so after AF I will be at 128.
Don't get discouraged by it! It's false gain (water weight). Drink lots, try to increase protein and lower sodium and just keep going!
