Re: Debating about getting a 3rd dog...
I dont have 3 but we have considered this. Then I think of taking 3 to the vet, 3 to groom, 3 for walks, asking someone to watch THREE while you go away. And so I will likely never have 3. The 3rd one will add a LOT of complication.

Re: Debating about getting a 3rd dog...
I have 3 and it's a lot of work! Two are 75 lbs and one is 45 lbs so I can not walk all three at once and when I am done walking them on 2 separate walks an hour has passed and I really haven't gotten much done after work. I have a huge backyard but I still walk them and the backyard clean up is also very time consuming. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't change it but would be hesitant the next time around.

Re: Debating about getting a 3rd dog...
My parents had three and it was tough. It just kinda happened. They had their two collies and they were fostering a pomeranian until they found her a home. My sister fell in love with the pomeranian and she never left. It was a lot of work, but since it was a small dog, it really wasn't much more effort than two, which is already a job in and of itself! lol! Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 dogs passed in 2010 so now they only have 1 dog again. My mom said NEVER again to three dogs, but is considering getting a second.

Re: Debating about getting a 3rd dog...
DH and I talk about a third all the time... (We know we can't until we have a house...) but have the conversation of getting a smaller dog then.. (Sam is 95lbs, Lilah is 65lbs... we're thinking of going a bit smaller like 45lbs.)
On one hand, we're so used to having two... its a bit of work, but completely manageable for us... and I look at a third as not that much more... we do all the grooming ourselves, so what's one more pup in the tub?
Yet on the other hand... 2 to the vet is 450+ annually... cost of food... and traveling wtih 3 would be tough.. Plus I have two cats... it all adds up...
But my biggest concern is that when DH and I go away, my Mom watches my pups... She couldn't handle a 3rd.
Lots of things to consider with a 3rd...
