Changing Formulas
How long do you wait before switching? I was using Enfamil Newborn but DS was gassy so I switched to Gentlease and I noticed a difference right away. Since I had a sample of Similac Sensitive in the house I'm trying that as well and DS seems to be gassy again. Should I give the Similac another couple of days or just go back to the Gentlease? WWYD?

Re: Changing Formulas
My mom kept telling me the baby was too fussy after eating and I had asked the doctor and she said it was normal.. After crying soooo much for a few days in a row my husband and I switched to Similac Soy and it seems to be easier on the baby's tummy. I'm curious, is Gentlease milk or soy based? Do you think I should try that? He's not allergic, that I can tell, of milk, but I'd rather have him going #2 at least once a day!

Re: Changing Formulas
I see I'm not the only one who is frantic and changing formulas. Lol. I'll probably buy a container tomorrow.
Gentlease is milk-based. Label says partially broken down proteins and 80% less lactose- I believe.
I decided to try the Similac because I only have samples of these formulas in the house. So I figured before I buy a container of the Gentlease I'd try the samples of the Similac version first. Thinking maybe he'd do the same or even better. KWIM?

gotcha.
Some say you can see a difference in the first 4-5 days. Some say it takes 2 weeks. Me personally, i think you can see a difference in the first 4-5 days. So if he does better on the gentlease, go with that one.

Oh no! I don't want him to be feeling this way for that long. I don't even know if he'll improve on this stuff. So being that I know he was better on the Gentlease I will switch back and stick to that.

Re: Changing Formulas
I would use the gentlease and give it some time. I hate to say it but they do grow out of it a bit.
My Dr never even said switch he just said He'll grow out of it. Its hard to see them unhappy and I swear I had days where DS cried all day. At around 8 weeks he had a marked improvement and then each week he is better. THe gentlease helped a lot but it wasn't a cure all.

Re: Changing Formulas
Similac Sensative an Gentlease are two totally completely different products. Sim Sensative is lactose free and for babies with a true lactose intolerance - very rare, Gentlease is for fussy/gassy babies - with partially broken down proteins and reduced lactose.
If you don't need a lactose free product I wouldn't use it. You want to keep lactose in the diet to continue the enzyme lactase working in the gut. Stick with gent lease.

Interesting.. I thought the two were comparable. I'll have to read the label more carefully!
Thank you!

Re: Changing Formulas
I'd stick with the Gentlease. From DS 1 I learned if a formula is working well, don't change it.
DS 1 did awesome on Gentlease and then came down wiht a stomach bug. We gave him the Similac Sensitive because he couldn't keep down anything wiht lactose afterwards. We tried to switch back afterwards but, he wouldn't drink it. He was so gassy!!!
