wheat belly
anyone read this book/doing this diet?
I thought it was crazy when my mom started it but I looked into it and couldn't believe it made sense to me. I am going on day 4 and down at least 3 lbs - and my cravings for sweets is gone for the first time ever. I ahve been overweight all my life. I have been eating "healthy and exercising" for weeks and have not lost anything until I tried this and so far it seems to be working, I can picture doing this long term but worried about holidays-I want to enjoy bread/sweets sometimes but don't want to get sick.

Re: wheat belly
Hi there - I had to reply when I saw the title of your post!
I haven't read Wheat Belly, but I know a thing or two about having one!
About six months ago, I started feeling awful - abdominal pain, back pain, etc. Thus began several months of diagnostic tests, specialist visits, etc.
None of the doctors could figure out what my problem was (turned out my gallbladder simply didn't work!), so I attempted elimination diets on my own to see if that would help with the pain. Eliminating wheat and gluten has changed my life! I didn't do this to lose weight, only to feel better, and both have happened! (And btw, I test negative in both endoscopy and bloodwork for celiac.)
I thought I had been eating well - only whole grains. However, my life has changed. EVERYONE says I look amazing. The pounds have essentially come off effortlessly. If I do have some wheat, my belly will be totally bloated for three days, then it goes back down to my new, flat tummy. The funny thing is that it isn't typical digestive bloating - my tummy legitimately looks fat! (A doctor friend said that clearly there is an inflammatory reponse I am getting from the wheat.) It is nice to know that I can have wheat, maybe once every two weeks, if I absolutely must.
I eat a lot of brown rice now, and start my day with yogurt instead of the whole grain cereal I used to have. I feel so much better, that it is motivation enough to not have the wheat! I do like my pasta, and I enjoy either corn or brown rice pasta from Trader Joe's.
Good luck and best of health to you!

Re: wheat belly
I didn't read it but I am very familiar with it & believe in it. I do not really eat processed foods, which eliminates most of those simple carbs and wheat. I am not hungry all the time, I eat and feed satisfied.
