Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant please?
I called one but she never returned my call and I'm having real issues with breastfeeding. I need to meet with a LC asap. I'm in Nassau. TIA.

Re: Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant please?
I went to three and spoke to another on the phone, and the one who helped me most was Kathy Waldow. She is a LLL leader in Floral Park. If you go to the meeting she will stay after and work with you for no charge. A meeting should be coming up soon. She also does private consults.
Another one I recommend is Michelle Turner - she was booked when I needed her but was very helpful on the phone and recommended Kathy.
I personally did not like Dr. Macaluso - she basically told me to give up on trying to BF bc DD wouldn't latch. We are still BFing at 10 months.
Here is a link to all the LCs in the area. GL - and you can do it! Lactation Consultants
ETA maybe we can help you on here too - what is going on that you need help?

Re: Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant please?
Thank you all. I'm having a number of issues including getting DD to latch correctly and pain. I called one today and she charges $200 for a consult. Can I ask what some of your recommended LC charged?

Re: Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant please?
Since Dr Macaluso is an MD/pediatrician, they were able to bill my insurance and I only had to pay my copay (two copays per visit - one for me and one for DS).

Re: Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant please?
if it is pain when the baby latches, this happened to me. It gets better, i promise. I was so discouraged and cried everytime he latched. I STRONGLY recommend this:
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=medela+nipple+shield&view=detail&id=532FEF38FED18B8336E73CC772FA7FF2BDA220C7&first=0&FORM=IDFRIR
it serioulsy works wonders!! the pain stops and i weaned myself off of it. I breastfed for 14 months with ds 1 and am on month 3 with my new ds. Please fm me with any questions!!
bf should be a great experience! i dont want you to be upset!

Re: Can anyone recommend a lactation consultant please?
I used Joy Padula. She was awesome. She wouldn't leave us until she was sure we got it. Her mother, Barbara Sohey, is also a LC and leader of the local La Leche League group. You can Google them.

DD is 3 weeks old. I couldn't BF for a week bc I had to go in for surgery and received medication that was unsafe to use while breastfeeding. I just started BFing again on Sat. I have horrible pain when she latches on and soreness during and after the feeding. One nipple is cracked and bleeding. I know it could be bc she is not latching properly even though I know how to do it in theory. I'm almost ready to give up, truth be told.

Mine was about $200 also, maybe 250. I know that's a lot of money in the short term, but you'll spend more in the long term on formula. You can also write the cost off on your taxes.
eta: I just found her, and she's comparatively inexpensive.
