Didn't know this would involve stress

With EVERYTHING in our new lives right now, I feel like I can't get a break..
We asked a relative of DH's to be our DS's Godparent and she said she wanted to buy the 'outfit.'

My mom and I had picked one already and it is beautiful but over $150. I wasn't planning on anyone else buying it for him.

Now, when I show her which one I wanted from the beginning she tries to show me all these chinsy looking ones for under $100!

His christening is an important day for us and I really didn't think this would cause me stress. Do you think I should just buy it myself and avoid the issue? I really don't want DH's family talking shit about me and my preferences for my only son!

I would just tell her that I will buy the outfit because I had my heart set on one already and see what she says. I wouldnt stress over it!

maybe she can buy him an accessory for the day..... like a white blanket with the baby's name and cross embroidered on it.

yes, let her pick a special accessory and take lots of pictures with it. her feelings may be a bit hurt though b/c many people expect to buy the christening outfit when they are the godparent. maybe her finances won't let her buy the more expensive outfit and she feels funny having you add the difference. Or, maybe she could buy the Christening party outfit.

Re: Didn't know this would involve stress

I'm a total witch when it comes to my boys' clothing - especially for important events. I am very picky and want to pick it out - and like you said, do not expect ANYONE to pay for what I choose.

I would just tell her you're completely in love with the outfit you picked out and you bought it for him.

I didn't have a 'party' outfit - That outfit cost a small fortune! Both of my boys wore it to Church and the party .......I changed the younger guy into a white polo onesie at the very end b/c it peed through the outfit ...but other than that - they kept them on til the end ........

I agree with asking her to get him a special blanket - or maybe a cross (although I just bought one for my Godson and it was expensive) .........My cousin gave both of my boys medals to pin to their carseats .......I know they weren't expensive, but I always always keep them there ........another idea

i bought both my kiddies their outfits bec it was what I wanted to get and more money than I expected them to pay..I agree with others that you have had your heart set on one and would like to purchase it so you can use it for any kids in the future as well (this was my thinking - not necessarily yours..but it could work Chat Icon )
