Extending certification from B-6 to 5-12 as well?
I am certified in Literacy for B-6. I just took a job teaching reading to 6th-8th grade for the remainder of the year. Next year I would be doing K-2, and 6th-8th again. I'd like to extend my certification to cover those grades.
Has anyone done this before? My college has an 18 credit advanced certificate program, which I've taken and completed for B-6th. The only difference in the 5th-12th grade program is the practicum and a course in middle school literacy (not on the b-12 certification program though). All of the other courses are the exact same. My college is telling me that of the 18 credits, I'd need to take 12 of them over, which I'm not understanding since I already took them.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Extending certification from B-6 to 5-12 as well?
I've done an extension- I only had an elem ed license and extended it to math 5-9 and 7-12. I ended up just enrolling for my masters in a program that would satisfy the requirements for my new licenses. If you already have your masters, it might be a little different, you probably just need to satisfy a few more classes. DO NOT retake classes, the person who told you that probably made a mistake. The college wants you to take as many classes with them as possible so they get the tuition. This type of stuff can get very messy so try to get everything in writing and talk to more than one person before you go ahead and do anything. Try contacting the NY TEACH certification department to see if they can give you more info.

Good luck!
