Re: Yoga near Lindenhurst Area?
I go to Hot Yoga Massapequa and love it there!
I'd never done yoga (other than DVDs) before going here.
They have a special, $20.00 for 10 consecutive days of unlimited yoga, for all new people who want to check it out.
It takes about that long to get used to the heat, and to learn to breathe in it.
Just make sure you start hydrating well for the day or two leading up to your first class.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Re: Yoga near Lindenhurst Area?
Thanks for the rec, but I think I'd rather do regular yoga as opposed to the one with heat. I tend to get rosacea sometimes from heat when it gets really hot, so hot yoga would probably not be good for me. What are the advantages of hot yoga?

Re: Yoga near Lindenhurst Area?
A lot of people have misconceptions about hot yoga, primarily those who have never done it before ;). This is why the beginners 10 day special is recommended, because it takes that long to get used to it. I have been going for over 2 years now and have yet to see anything bad happen to anyone given the negative stereotypes you hear people say about it.
I took this from the HYM website, but there are lots of wonderful resources on the internet about this style of yoga if you do a search:
Yoga is not just for the super flexible as is commonly thought. The person looking to get in shape will notice dramatic improvement, while the seasoned athlete will always be challenged as well and find enhanced endurance and increased performance. This class is created specifically for the Western person and our cultural problems of job stress, overeating, bad posture, and hectic lifestyles. Some of the benefits of this yoga include: •Weight loss •Detoxification •Stress reduction •cardiovascular improvement •arthritic alleviation •improve strength and flexibility •help back pain •improve immune function •breathing problems, asthma •digestive and glandular disorders •normalize blood pressure •create mental clarity
I do respect that a lot of people don't like it, or want to start out in a non-heated environment.
