other peoples baby registries
Just saw a relatives baby registry and there are a few things that are bugging me. I asked if she wanted my opinion but never received an answer. Normally I would try to keep my mouth shut but these are things that are more a safety issue than just me being me.
She registered for no back boosters, obviously the baby isn't going to be using them for YEARS and they will be expired by then. She also has a graco seat that isn't for rear facing and I doubt she is going to have the baby in the infant carrier until it can be forward facing. There's a few more things, like a bundle me and pads for the car seat straps that I personally wouldn't use but I know those are a personal preference so I could let that go.
I really don't know how to address this, if at all. I know I should let it be but again these are more of a safety issue.
Any advice???

I Would leave it alone. I know plenty of people that turned their kid forward before the recommended time. It's their choice and none of my business

Unless she asks for your input, kindly MYOB.
If anyone questioned my registry, I would have flipped.
For all you know, she could register for some of these items only to return them for store credit maybe?

Crashing here... But I think your thinking is totally absurd. If she asks your opinion, then all good and well. If not, I'm sure she will figure it all out on her own. And if it bothers you that much, jut don't buy those items from the registry. I'm sure I registered for things that people may have rolled their eyes about, but no one is forcing them to buy those things. Bigger fish to fry my dear

Unless it's your sister or your BFF, say nothing. I'm sure she has people close to her that will help her out.

I am pretty much that close to her, she has no other close relatives or bff's that have kids.
I get that my thinking is a little crazy and I know I am not perfect and everyone needs to learn their own lessons. I am a bit over crazy when it comes to car seat safety, I think that's why it bothers me so much.
Thanks for the opinions!! It's going to be tough but I will try to keep my mouth shut !!

Maybe you could reccommend products that you used and rave about them and the reasons why? That way, you are sharing your knowledge without stepping on her toes.

I don't know, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I'd have a hard time letting that go too. I might just take a friendly approach, like "Not sure if you know but carseats usually expire in 5 years, so you probably wouldn't get to use that booster before it expires." I wouldn't really want to "let her figure it out on her own" like others suggested, because if you said she really has no sisters or close family or anything, there may be nobody to tell her except you.

I agree with wingsofsong. When i registered, i had no clue what to register for. my best friends and sis gave their opinions on some of my items in such a way that i didnt feel offended or angry but was grateful in the end. Its all how you word it.

Re: other peoples baby registries
I don't know, maybe I give people too much credit, but don't most new mommies-2-be research stuff and read all that they can in books and online when looking to purchase or register for things?
Especially when it comes to things like car seats, cribs, and things of that nature?

Sadly no, not every new parent-to-be does this.

Unfortunately no, thats not always the case. Sometimes brand names and the way things look and match trump knowledge of a product.
Which is why I am concerned.
Again, do I do everything perfect, no, not at all. But I am always open to opinions, then I do my own research. Unfortunately I know this is not the case in this situation.
Thanks again everyone for opinions. I am trying to think of a way to do this that I am not stepping on toes or coming off as a know it all.

I reasearched and still made choices that people wouldn't like. I had a bundle me and used it all winter for my newborn.....car seat protector too (oh the horror )
Some people just don't do everything by the book. I look at it as things are still on the market so they can't be horrible....wouldn I buy everything on the market no but some things I just didn't feel that they were that bad.
I really would MYOB.

Re: other peoples baby registries
I put alot of things on my registry that I was "Thinking about" or looking into, only to change it, or wind up returning after I had further researched them and figured out what worked, what didn't work and what we didn't need at that moment got exchanged for what we did. It's kind of a rite of passage to figure it out as first time parents. I think you're not giving her enough credit. I'd stay out of it.
mentioning the car seat expiring the way someone above stated isn't so bad...but being that she didn't ask and you already offered your assistance and opinion and she didn't respond...I'd kindly take that as she's not interested in hearing your opinion at this time. Being a new parent-to-be means being bombarded with everybody elses opinions...add that to being hormonal, achey etc...she just may not be ready to hear another word of advice about HER baby.

I totally agree. Shame on people who would not mention something that might be a safety issue! It's not like she 's trying to give opinions on color or brands for no reason. I would feel personally responsible if I could have prevented someone from comprising their child's safety and something happened. Even if her advice is ignored at least she tried. Like PP said, just word it in a nice way. Maybe she truly doesn't know.
