Mini or Micro IVF

Have you done a Mini or Micro IVF? If so how was your experience. What prompted you to choose the mini over the traditional IVF. What was your protocol? I will appreciate any information you can share.

Re: Mini or Micro IVF

I did with SIRM. I don't know how much different it was from regular ivf. They said it's less meds but the dr wasn't opposed to givin me more drugs. I began on bcp then 3.5 weeks of lupron (since i have endo) then the lupron overlapped with 300gonal/day for a few days as well as a vile of menopur. Then I thi k they dropped me to 75 gonal at the end trigger when I was ready and ER 2 mornings after. We did a 5 dt. We put the 2 best embies in and both took and I'm 11 weeks this wed. I had 15 eggs total, 9 mature, 8 fert and 5 were decent quality at 5/6 days but the remaining didn't make it to blast at 6 days. HTH!

This does not sound like Mini (Micro) IVF...this sounds just like a regular IVF...mini IVF does not produce 15 eggs...it is aimed to produce just few, very similar to an IUI! and uses very little meds (you were on high 300 a day-mini IVF does not use that high of a dosage)...

The average birth rate with IUI is under 10% per cycle.
Anticipated birth rate with Micro-IVF in the same population group would be about three times greater (at least 30% per cycle).
The average IUI cycle with injectable fertility drugs costs about $3,000-$4,000 which is comparable to the fee for Micro-IVF.
When measured in terms of the cost per baby rather than cost per cycle of treatment, Micro-IVF is far more efficient than IUI.

Here you can find good info on it..

Yes, that wasent mini. You only take 150units once a day for 5 days.

I had it. I am not one for lots of meds so I like it.
I only had to give myself 5 injections. There is no chance of overstimming. If you are in good health but, you mostly have the male factor I would recommend it.
The reasoning is that instead of getting lots of eggs you get less eggs of higher quality. It is also way less expensive.

Re: Mini or Micro IVF

I was totally gungho on doing a Micro cycle at LI IVF due to the expense and the less meds. My RE was willing to do it, but insisted it had substantially lower success rates. In the end, I'm doing a full fresh cycle because my nurse was able to gather my meds through their donation program and I'm getting some funds form the NYS DOH grant so for the cost of 2 Micros, I'm doing a fresh and hoping to have frosties. Time will tell if I'm making the right call.
