MumMums made in China
My MIL noticed this on my box of Organic baby MumMums the other day.
I didnt know that and Im not too thrilled about it.
Any other opinions?

The company actually originated in Taiwan in the 60's...so it is truly a product of China that the US imports....just FYI

Plenty of children (including my own husband) have survived a chinese life. Just FYI.
That said, I prefer home made things and have never given AJ a MumMums to start with. *shrug*
Made in China is not a curse.

I heard about MumMums on LIF.
They sell them at BRU, Target and some grocery stores.

It's an oblong rice cake tpye of cracher that the baby can chew on. It dissolves very easily for new chewers. It has a slight sweetness to it, but not like a cookie. A softer biter bisquit is how I would describe it.

I noticed this right away but was limited by other dietary issues so bit the bullet. She only gets them once a day max. Just FYI, the organic certification is through a German company if you want to research them and see if they are legit or not.

No, doesn't necessarily make them good or bad to me. Its a rice product, China is a huge producer of rice, so why is it so taboo to eat something made in China. People would eat a piece of chocolate that said made in Switzerland and consider it gourmet. Switzerland is a big producer of chocolate. Both scenarios are the same to me.
My original point was that this is not a US product that we have shipped off to China to produce with cheap labor. It actually is a Chinese product. So Made in China should not always be construed as a negative thing.

I'm going to choose to ignore this post because my son loves Baby Mum Mums. 
Now, if it was a PLASTIC toy with paint on it that was made in China, I may take it away.
Yeah... I'm kind of confused as to why "Made in China" is now like a curse word. I, too, wish jobs would stay here in America, so that's not my point. But, why would it immediately imply that something is not safe?
I'm not asking to be a wiseass or start an argument... I'm legitimately curious.

Honestly, this would not bother me. Just like having a product made in the USA is no guarantee that it's healthy or even safe, having a product made in China is no guarantee that it's tainted.
Sometimes people feel more secure when taking a hard line on things, such as "My baby NEVER ate food from a jar.". Now, we have no way to prove that the produce used in that homemade food was any better or worse than the jarred food, whether the same level of sterilization was used as would be in the jarred food process, or if the person making the homemade food even had clean hands. But making the food somehow feels "better" and more "pure", doesn't it?
So if you feel better having a completely China-free pantry, then skip the Mum Mums.

Just read that a ton of food that places like whole foods, trader joes etc.. labeled "organic and USDA certified" is from china..it even is printed on the back of the boxes!
They claim they have to go through the same process as in the US and there are inspections and everything done...interesting. You wouldn't think that a bag of mixed veggies labeled "california vegetable mix" would be from China , right??

they have been made there for as long as i know. i'm sure they have to meet some kind of US regulation in order to be sold here. You never hear of them making the news b/c of sickness or recalls yet it seems like every other week Infant Tylenol is recalled.

It concerns me a little because (from what I have read) China has less regulations in their Health Standards.
Its been reported that some of the manufacturers have been unethical and willing to cut corners and cheat in order to increase profits (i.e melamine in baby formula, pet food, toxic drywall, use of banned pesticides etc). Their markets seem to be driven more heavily by the dollar.
HOWEVER, I see recalls and disease outbreaks here in the US all the time so I am not saying China is the only culprit. I realize this happens everywhere. China just seems to make the news a lot more than other places.
Trust me I dont have a "China-free pantry". Im not even the one who noticed it on the label. I was just looking for other opinions on it so I could make a better informed one for my son.

Doesn't bother me.
I have found recipes for making my own....never tried it, but it's possible. I don't see the harm in them being made in China.
