Anyone have experience with a cat that has herpes?
My new kitten has this nasty UTI he just can't shake. My vet said herpes is common in kittens from shelters and that it's manifested as nasty UTIs. I'm just wondering if this is something he's likely to fully recover from or how often it can flare up. Its been 3wks... 3 different antibiotics... and he's still sneezing, breathing heavily, and has a runny nose

Re: Anyone have experience with a cat that has herpes?
Our cat is also from a shelter, and we found out last year that he has herpes. (Our vet also told us how common it is in shelter cats.) He hasn't had any UTI's, but he occasionally has the cat equivalent of pink eye...one of his eyes looks blinky/half-closed for a day or so. We give him a scoop of Viralys (also known as Lysine) every day in his wet food (you could get it on Amazon). He hasn't had any eye issues since we started giving it to him. I'm not sure if it's specifically for eye problems, or herpes symptoms in general, but it's worth asking the vet about.

Thank you so much!!! Actually, my vet suggested yesterday that we buy lysine treats but I looked them up on Petsmart's website and they're like 25-30 bucks!! I saw them cheaper on amazon though.. I'll definitely check those out now.
Do you have any other cats? I'm just wondering how likely this is to spread.

Re: Anyone have experience with a cat that has herpes?
That does seem kinda expensive for the lysine treats! I think (but I'm not sure, my DH bought them) we paid about $15 for the 3.5 oz jar of Viralys powder on Amazon, but it lasts a long time. We have only bought maybe 2 or 3 in a year. It's so worth it! The cat doesn't get "blinky-eye" (as we call it, lol) anymore. And we don't have any other cats, so I'm not sure how contagious/easily spread it is. Good luck!

I don't have experience with this (had no idea cats could get this) but hope your kitty isn't suffering.
