Sweet Tots, Children's Nest, Precious Kids Too and more! HELP!

I have to find, yet again, another place for my little guy. We are looking in the Wantagh/Bellmore/Merrick area and need a place that doesn't really follow the school calendar, but if it blows me away I will consider it.

Does anyone have experience with the above places?

There's also a new Wee Friends opening in NB with full day care, but they are still following the school calendar.

I also called Alphabetland, Big Chief and Rose Garden so I have those to consider as well.

It seems it may come to a hair splitting decision, since over the phone they sound good. I just visited Sweet Tots today and liked them very much and will visit a few more next week.

Thank you!!!

I'm trying to stay away from corporate run centers and stick with a smaller, private setting that feels a little more like home, so if I have to sacrifice brand new-ness for well worn-ness I will have to do that...but of course I insist on a place that is clean, safe and colorful!

This is my 3rd go around with daycares so I know exactly what I want for my son, I just need to find it!

Have you looked into tuturo time? They are only closed i think 7 days a year. New facility so it looks like a brand new school. Love the structure and accountabilty of Tutor Time.

I have visited two of the ones on your list. Im not thrilled with the age of the buildings and condition. Dark dungy rooms.. concrete walls.. just not what I wanted to see my son in. JMO

tha's fine.. I assume you had a bad experience with a certain center.. no need to state that though and make all the others nervous about it without any sort of explanation.

Sure!

I had a horrific experience with the owner of the one my 2 boys went to, as did a few other moms on here and felt that he and his director were more focused on $$ and turnover than my children. The center changed dramatically in the almost 3 years I was there.

The final straw was when the owner called me at my job and b!tched me out (you can probably still find that post on here)......no one who watches my kids will show that kind of disrespect.......and he owns 5 TTs......

I have discussed this in older posts and again briefly on this one.

Everyone has to make the best decision possible for themselves and their children. And my preference is to avoid ALL corporately run centers, not just the one I experienced. There, TO ME, is a disconnect when filtered down through the chain of command and I prefer to deal directly with owners and directors.

This will now be my third daycare search, and while I would never consider myself a professional on it, I know what I like and don't like, most because of experiencing situations with each place. I wish i didn't have to find a new place but we have moved and the commute isn't the best.

Im not disagreeing with you.. but to specifically quote my comment with that was unnecessary since lots of people use them and the way you worded your response was a little.. well mean. You could have just been done with it when you edited your post about corporate daycares. Point would have been taken.

Good luck in your search.

You mentioned TT, I quoted and answered YOU based on YOUR recommendation....then I elaborated not only in reference to TT but to ALL corporate centers in general.....nuff said, let's move on.

As a mother and for many other mothers out there, I feel an obligation to allow people to know what they MAY be getting themselves into. Give them a perspective they maybe, as a new mother, haven't considered. I loved the TT we were in, it was great....and then it wasn't. If I can help someone else avoid that, I will.....

And speaking of mean.....the daycares I listed and you visited and considered "dark and dingy"....some people on here have children who attend those centers....how should they take your comments? But it all needs to be taken with a grain of salt......

Here's a link that might help narrow your search:

Day Care in NYS

It's a list of every licensed day care in the state, any citations the site has been given, and whether or not the issue has been corrected. HTH!

I live in the area....My one good friend has her 2 year old daughter in Children's Nest in Merrick. It is open 12 months a year and has late hours (as my friend works in the city). She has overall been very happy there.

Two of my other good friends send their 3 year olds to Precious Kids II part time and rave about it.

I've heard awful things about Alphabetland, but don't have any personal experience there. I use a private daycare, but she only works with teacher's children.

My older DS is at Sweet Tots now. I like it a lot. And he loves it there. He goes part time, 3 days a week. I wish I could put him in full time but with DS2 starting at ST soon (also part time), we can't afford full time for DS1. If you have any questions FM me.

I also went to visit Big Chief and although this was my first choice over ST and much closer to home, I did not choose them because they did not provide breakfast. Not sure if their policy changed but as of last year when I was looking, they didn't provide it and that was one of my must haves on my list. Good Luck. Chat Icon

no personal experience, but I was about to call sweet tots, and I "think" when I looked them up on the state site they had more inspection violations then the others I called......

ETA_ yup its the one in bellmore I had seen recommended on here...... violations from 4/27 that still weren't corrected on the 1 month follow up. Peeling paint and staff certification.

Obviously you made up your mind, but for other moms on here, I loved Tutor Time in Levittown and was sad to have to pull my son out (it was cheaper to have someone come to our home with two kids).

I visited a few non corporate centers and they were very small and not set up in the way I would want for my children (one big room, separated by cubicle walls for example in TLC in Merrick).

I loved the convenience of the hours at Tutor Time, the teachers were fabulous.

I have heard good things about Alphabetland.
