Anyone else have low vitamin D come up on blood work? Mine was 20, normal is between 30 and 100.

Do you take a supplement? How many units?

I was given a prescription of 50,000 a week for 6 weeks too, but i don't want to take it bc I'm TTC and the dr. wasn't able to tell me for sure that it would be safe to take vitamin d in that high a dosage in case I do get pregnant! so i'm just taking 2000 units a day for now

Ironically, I went back to the dr Friday for my results. My Vit D was a 15. I am back on 50,000mg once a week for 3 months. I have to have it checked again in 3 months. I have a gluten issue and mine is probably due to the malnutrition from the allergy.

Actually, too low vitamin d can contribute to fertility problems. You want to fix the problem NOW before you try and get pregnant. Also, while I was pregnant, my perinatologist had me on 5,000 of vitamin d.. .It's fine. Good luck!

ETA: I just reread -- are you sure its 50k???? That sounds kind of crazy!! They don't even COME in doses higher than 5k ...... and my vitamin d was even lower than yours... 50k doesn't seem to make sense!!

Yes, I'm sure... it's a prescription... 50,000 units for 6 weeks followed by 2000 units a day to maintain. Apparently that's a common dosage for Vitamin D deficiency. I've been doing more reading and i've decided that i'm going to start taking it tomorrow. Thanks!

This is what I am on right now - 50,000 twice a week for two months, and then I have to get my levels checked again. Mine was a 16.

Re: Vitamin D

I'm on 70,000 units a week for 3 months because mine was 25. I also have gluten issues so I also think that's related. It's prescription strength.

I had to do that too. Now I just take a standard vit D supplement over the counter. I don't even know the mg offhand

I don't know what my number was but my oncologist just wrote me a script for 50k 1x a week.
Apparently Vitamin D is very important to prevent cancer recurrence.

Re: Vitamin D

Does anyone on the 50k dose notice a difference? I'm on my third week. Pill makes me queasy. I have more bruises then ever and I am very sleepy. I did notice my bones not cracking so much anymore. My bones don't feel so tender.

Re: Vitamin D

I had a bad vitamin d level, it was 13 or 16 I do not recall. I had to take 50.000 Iu's and go in the sun as well. Its important to watch it can lead to alot of issues.
I never got it either because I drink mil and eat things with vitamind d in it as well.
