Rehoming a Dog
I know the shit storm this kind of post causes on here. I am totally against re-homing a dog myself and could never imagine letting my Achiiles away but here it goes anyway.
My friend just told me she has to rehome her dog because he keeps escaping from their house and roaming the neighborhood. She and her DH aren't home during the day and apparently the sitter can't keep the dog inside. Last night people showed up at their house with bats threatening them the next time their dog got out they would do something about it. She's worried about what will happen and needs to re-home her dog. He's a boxer, really cute but obviously an escape artist.
Other than Craigslist is there a good way to try to re-home him? She wont do a shelter or anything like that, she wants him to go directly to a new family.
Please dont turn this into a lecture on what she could do to not go down this road and how she should take better care of her dog and how horrible it is to do this. We ALL know this and we ALL agree on this, but it's her decision and since her mind is made up I just want to help ensure the dog is placed in a good loving home.

She can try contacting animal rescue groups such as FurBabies in East Rockaway. Link
Most groups like this aren't necessarily able to take the dog, but they help to find the dog a foster and/or permanent home. It's a very nice situation because there can be a level of contact between the old home and the new home if both parties are OK with it.
For example, DH and I found a stray dog in January, and we wanted to keep him so badly (I still cry sometimes over the fact that we couldn't), but it was NOT working with our cats. Anyway, we worked with FurBabies, and he is now in a wonderful home, and we've been able to visit him a few times!
One of our cats is also from FurBabies. His owner had to go into a nursing home, but he was with a foster mom for awhile, and she LOVED him. I'm friends with his foster mama on Facebook, and she has come over to visit him. She-and maybe the dog's new family-are coming to our house for a barbecue in a few weeks, so it's really a nice way for everyone to stay in touch and to know that the animals are truly safe.

i wouldn't go with craigslist
tell her to try a boxer rescue
hopefully that sitter takes better care of the kids!

A breed specific rescue would be the best bet, and she needs to NETWORK her butt off to get the word out - if she's on facebook she should post there and ask her friends for help. Craigslist would be DEAD LAST imho as a rehoming vehicle.

Thank you everyone. I will pass all this along to her and try to help her out. I only mentioned CL bc a friend was very successful in re-homing her dog that way but I guess it was just a lucky shot for her.

When I was looking, I looked on Craigslist daily. I offered to meet people and have them see my home and meet my family and other pets and would have gladly paid a rehoming fee. We are a good stable loving family and I hate how the freaks ruin it for the rest of us.
I wouldn't write it off... Boxers are adorable.
If she did Craigslist I'd have her meet with people and see their homes. Lots of good people out there looking for a furry friend.

I found my dog on CL too, her family didn't want to bother with her anymore. Their loss, my gain! Anyway, I agree CL can go either way.. there are weirdos & there are also nice people like us  I'd still use as a last resort to avoid weirdos.
I agree with a boxer rescue or Facebook or on here!

A friend of a friend has mentioned Adopt a Boxer Rescue AABR Site
on fb many times. I think she may volunteer with them.
