divorce cost?
A friend of mine is ready to file for divorce from her DH.
She doesn't make a lot of money and he is currently not working.
They don't have kids or joint property.
How much is a typical divorce? What would be the "cheapest" way to go about getting a divorce?
This is really a painful and stressful time for her. Any advice or information is appreciated.

Re: divorce cost?
The cheapest way would for them to file it themselves, costs around 325.00 if they make their own agreements and nothing is being argued about.

Totally agree... if you don't have assests and don't have kids or if you both are amicable and can agree to terms...this is the best option..

Re: divorce cost?
Like others said, they could do a no-contest divorce. My sister did one but had a lawyer do it to ensure all papers were filed correctly. It cost about $1000 total for everything. I would rather do that instead of trying to do it on my own just because I would want to ensure that I don't mess up a single document.

I agree. I used legalzoom.com and paid $325 for the paperwork but my SIL is an attorney and she helped me with the paperwork. With court fees and all, it ended up costing about $550-$600. If I didnt have her, I would have went through an attorney anyway. Mine was uncontested as well
