What?? No sono between week 12 and 20??

Guess I was "spoiled" at the RE! I thought I'd be having a sono every visit.. Well I called my doc today to change my 14 week appt. from tomorrow to today and I wanted to make sure the sono tech would also be there and she said "you're not having a sono".. I then did a little research on here and realized, most doctors don't do another sono till 20 weeks!!!!
How can I wait that long? Lol..

Just from personal experience, I would ask for a pre-anatomy scan at 16wks..... That seems like a long time for no sono. Again, that's just me ... but that's an awfully long time.

I guess it depends on your dr. My Dr. will do one if I ask for one. I guess I'm lucky.

Most insurance companies don't pay for additional ones (besides the 20 week and potentially near delivery) unless medically necessary. Most women only get one at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks. Some obgyns will give a growth sono at about 35 weeks but that is not true for every obgyn.

I am doing a 16 week bloodwork. I think they also check the heartbeat. It is kind of freaking me out. What is going on in that belly now!

I had sonos at 5w, 6w, 8w, 12w6 days and will have my next this thursday at 18w6 days... only had one appt inbetween for doppler and I am freaked the F out.... 6 weeks between sonos and 4 weeks between appts is driving me nuts.

Guess that comes with the territory of having prior losses..... but was def. spoiled because they gave me so many sonos at the beginning.

Just got back from my appt. and they couldn't hear the heartbeat on the Doppler so he did a quick sono ( no take home pics though)! I was so scared when they couldn't hear it on the Doppler... Everything looked good though. The baby really looks like a baby now!!

Pennycat- my next appt is 18 weeks so I'm going to ask if I can have one during that appt. - good idea!

I had one at 7w, 8w, and 9w at my RE. Then one at 10w with my regular doctor, again at 12w, then 20w.

I am now 27w and don't get another one until 34w! That is 14 weeks in between and the 34w sono will be the last.

This is why I am considering 3d, just to see her again.

But now that I feel her moving around all day long every day I am less nervous about the lack of sonos.

We didn't have a sono either at our 16w appointment. Just bloodwork and they listened for the heartbeat. I was so upset when I found out we weren't have one at 16w.


We ended up going to get a 3d sono the next day anyway (we wanted to find out what we were having). it was such a relief and worth every penny to see my babyboy!

Thankfully, my OB/GYN knew my history of m/c and how paranoid I am, he did sonos when I asked for them.

It's standard not to have a sono between 12 and 20 weeks. Be glad you don't require one! I had one at 16 (actually 17) weeks because I see a high risk doctor occasionally. If there's no reason for it, that's a GOOD thing!

It is normal to go that long without having one. You do get spoiled seeing an RE cause you get so many in the beginning.

Most insurances will not cover more unless medically necessary. I had them weekly during my 3rd tri due to issues but otherwise I would only have had one after 20 weeks.

At my 16 week appointment we had no sono either. One at 12 weeks next one at 20 weeks...
