I'm getting too stressed over the names
I'm really down because I can't decide on names: Isabella or Elizabeth i would be the full names. Thing is I'm a classic type of person so I think ... OK Elizabeth, pretty ... but it can be boring. Isabella to me has a little more flair. You can't say it is trendy because it has been rising a lot since 1990 .. that is a little over 20 years ago. To me, trendy is something that only lasts a few years. Any thoughts ... I'm consuming myself in this and have a house and 2.5 year old to take care of. I do not want to wait until I first hold her ... too much pressure here and she is due in a little less than 3 weeks.

Personally Isabella is too popular. I know Elizabeth is always high on the lists but I don't think it is nearly as common nowadays. My name is Elizabeth and it is a nice classic name with tons of nickname options. While I really like Isabella is just too popular for my taste.

Re: I'm getting too stressed over the names
You have to go with your gut and when you do lay eyes on your LO, you will just know what their name is.
I begged DH to name our DD Isabella- to me, it was the antithesis of my name (Jennifer- of which there were a ton of growing up). Now I reaize that Isabella IS the popular name of her generation but it doesnt bother me. I look at her and know we picked the right name for her. You will too!

I would choose Elizabeth (and almost did) over Isabella in a heartbeat but the fact that you just described it as boring, I don't think you should name your child Elizabeth.

Re: I'm getting too stressed over the names
A close friend and DH advised me write both names on paper or two separate sheets of paper ... step away then revisit it then go then with what stands out ... I might even push it as far as looking at her when she is born. I'm finding that many other people go through this which now puts me at ease ...I'm not crazy or anything ... just getting a little to caught up at the moment. Thanks

Re: I'm getting too stressed over the names
I personally love Elizabeth so I woudl choose that but it sounds like in your heart you are leaning more towards Isabella. It is popular but it is a classic also. both sound really nice with your last name.

I'm getting too stressed over the names
My DD was 2 days old before she had a name. The one we selected had never once been discussed before the moment we chose it. Relax momma.

no matter what you pick you won't have any regrets. Babies seem to just "become" the name you give them, KWIM?

Re: I'm getting too stressed over the names
DH's rule for names is to pick based on people he knows with that name. For example, I love Lily as a name. He knew a Lily that he really disliked so he automatically vetoed that name.
I also think names shape your personality. See if you can think of people named Elizabeth and Isabella. Which characteristics do you like more? Which would you want your daughter to have?
I'm not sure if this will help, but my great-aunt and SIL are both Elizabeths. They are spoiled and self-absorbed, but also fun-loving and determined.
My grandmother's name was Isabella (if I ever have a daughter that will be her name, popular or not). She was passionate and strong-willed, but also vengeful and unforgiving.
Good luck!
ps. I know exactly how you feel. I could never wait until AFTER the baby was born to pick a name. I must have it picked before.
