UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
Re: my son's pooping.
Sorry if this is TMI but my son has to poop (has been wanting to all day) and he's told me a couple of times of when he had to poop and it sounded like an urgency so we ran to the potty but nothing happens when I sit him on it. It's not like he resists sitting on it. I can actually see that he has to do #2 cuz I have seen markings on his underwear. It's like he feels it but it won't come out. Everytime he has to poop this always happens where he feels it all day and then nothing happens on the potty. Sometimes he will end up pooping at night...I don't know what's happening....I don't think it's constipation cuz nothing hurts when he goes and when he does finally poop it's normal (large but normal)
Is there anything I can do to make the poop come out quicker...
Or should I be speaking to the doctor about this...
UPDATE: Well he finally endede up pooping tonight at like 7ish. My concern is how it took him all day for the poop to come out. When it was time for it to come out my son looked at me with fear and started crying a little. We made it to the potty and as he was going he was whinning and saying "i'm scared"....I think something is bothering him inside his tummy....

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
I've tried giving him plenty of water to drink and some high fiber foods. The urge to go is there. I see he has to go by his body movements he has been holding hiimself all day and it's because he has to poop...Don't know what to do anymore....

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
I would try a little prune juice to loosen things up. Mix it in water or with other juice (maybe apple). This will tell you if he is constipated, hopefully it will help him.

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
He is probably a little scared...my daughter will tell me she has to go over and over again and we will sit there and she will do nothing. I ended up buying Pedialax Glycerin suppositories..they work almost instantly...and she hates it so much that now I say, "do you want me to stick the thing in your bottom, or do you think you can go by yourself?" and she doesn't like the suppositories, so she ends up going herself 80% of the time.

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
If it's a CONSTANT thing, I would think you should mention it to the dr. Is it possible he has to go, but is 'holding it'? Constipation can still be an issue if you are seeing 'markings' on his undies. The watery, (SORRY I KNOW TMI), will run past the harder stools and 'leak out'.
However, if you dont think thats it... Apple juice always keep my DD regular. TMI goes out the window when there is a little one with a poop issue lol.... whatever usually helps you go, (I know! ),try that. HTH.
ETA: Just saw your response... Maybe contact the ped's office and ask if they have anything that is powder that you can dissolve in his water instead? I hope he feels better soon..

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
I feel so bad for him cuz he is walking around holding it in and he wants to sit a lot cuz it makes it easier to hold in. I think I am going to call the doctor cuz I a don't know what to do for him anymore...

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
Actually in the beggining it looked like he was doing fine. He would tell me had to poop (but he says he has to do pee pee when it's really poop) but anyways he would tell me and would poop fairly quickly. Now it seems like everytime he has to do #2 it's an issue where it takes all day for him to finally go. I just hope it's not something else and I certainly hope it doesn't back anything up in his system...

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
Call your ped. My son who was regular ended up having a problem because he didn't finish. He had a blockage that became VERY painful. They gave him MiraLax which is a powder that you put in their drinks once a day. It's a stool softner worked wonders.
Good Luck!

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
I actually ended up calling the doctor and he said that if this keeps up then to give him a tbsp of miralax. Didn't mention anything about it being the powder kind. Is there a liquid kind too?
He said if this doesn't work then to call back.
I don't want him to end up getting a blockage. I have to see what happens by later on this evening. The poop is there, I know it's TMI but before I was wiping his tooshy cuz he had some markings and I actually saw the poop inside. This is worrying me because if he doesn't go then he can get all blocked up inside....

Re: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
if he is sitting on the toilet and it's not coming out then he is constipated, plain and simple. they don't need hard small poop to be considered constipated. he's probably already all backed up. hopefully the miralax does the trick for you.

miralax is the way to go. it's only in powder form, but mixes in well with anything, even water. you'd never know it's there if you put it in juice. he might be able to tell with the water because it makes it taste mildly different. hth!

Re: UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
we had this problem at that age. For us, he was constipated and had hard stools. He had 1 painful poop and after that was afraid to push because he thought it would hurt and then would hold it instead of pushing, making the constipation worse.
We did miralax for a while (it is powder that dissolves quickly in liquid). After a while, when he realized it wouldnt hurt he started pushing again.
Good luck!

Re: UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
Where else can I put the miralax in besides water? He only drinks water. He drinks milk in the morning but I don't want to put it in there.
So does him not being able to push it out all day mean that he is constipated? When he finally pooped last night it wasn't hard. The problem is him pushing it out. It shouldn't take all day for him to push it out, right?

Re: UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
my son does this - he actively tries to not poop. Sometimes it goes on for days. We are getting the reccommendation of a specialist from our Ped Monday.

Re: UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
My DD used to do this. We did the Miralax and it worked for awhile until she figured out she could still hold it in. The doctor said she probably had one poop that hurt and decided she just didn't want to go anymore. It actually got so bad we had to do suppositories. It was just a phase and passed...

He drinks milk in the morning but I don't want to put it in there.
Why not? Sorry if I'm being too direct, but why not just throw it in his milk or water? If he tastes a difference then go on to something else...a milkshake, a smoothie, cereal, etc.

Re: UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
I want to change up his diet a bit before I give him the miralax.
I am going to try and include some more fiber. He's not a big veggie eater. He loves bananas so I'm gonna have to hold off on them for a bit since they bind you. He loves oranges which I hear has fiber.
I also use whole wheat bread when I make him a peanut butter and jelly or grilled cheese sandwhich. I bought whole wheat pancakes and multi grain cheerios for breakfast.
Also is chicken nuggets ok for fiber? I read on the label that's it's 2 or 3 grams of fiber per serving.
Oh and I also got organic yo baby yogurt in peach and pear flavor.

Oh yeah that's right I can put it in his cereal.....didn't think of that.

Re: UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
If this pooping situation continues after including more fiber in his diet then I will have to take him into the doctor...

Re: UPDATE: PLEASE HELP...I'M GETTING STRESSED OUT...
DD has constipation issues sometimes and I give her 1 tbsp of Benefiber powder (per the pediatrician). It has no odor or taste and I put it in her water.
