How much does an inground pool increase your taxes?
We were looking in to one and were told anywhere from $400 to $1000. I have no idea waht is correct in that range.

How much does an inground pool increase your taxes?
Thanks! DH was thinking it could be like $3k a year but we were hoping he was wrong. Your range sounds much better! We're obviously going to have to find out a more detailed answer but I was hoping to get a general idea.

Re: How much does an inground pool increase your taxes?
It depends on so many factors: size, decking around pool, etc.
The best thing to do is to figure out what kind of pool you'd like to get and call the Tax Assessor's office. They will be able to give you an estimate. A basic semi-above ground with wood decking would increase a couple of hundred dollars a year. A more elaborate built in with pavers, waterfall, etc., could increase it over $1000 per year.

Re: How much does an inground pool increase your taxes?
Thank you. We are planning a fair sized inground but not super huge with pavers around it. We'll also be adding a lot to our yard as far as a new deck, patio, playset for the kids. It's really irritating that you get so much charged extra to make your yard/home nice. We'll be paying taxes on the supplies and work, along with extra $$ for the energy we use to run the pool, the water, etc. Very frustrating.

I added an inground.... I honestly didnt notice the $ increase. So it wouldnt have been that much. Now you have me wondering..
People scared me saying it would increase the taxes, insurance.
When I added it to the homeowner's insurance it didnt increase. which shocked me. They said something about the % of land the structure takes up ? I did increase my coverage, because of the pool. It was suggested by them and made sense to me. God forbid something happened, I had more coverage.

If you call the Assessor's office and give them the dimensions of the pool you're thinking about and the dimension of the pavers you're adding, they will give you a pretty accurate estimate. Also, a stone or cement patio will increase your taxes, but a wooden deck will not.
The basic rule is that if a structure is not "permanent" it's not taxable. However, what the law does and doesn't consider "permanent" doesn't always make sense.

Re: How much does an inground pool increase your taxes?
Our increase was $900 a year. That is with over 2000 sqft of pavers. My pool size is 16 x 32 by 16 x 32. A true el.
We are in Suffolk County. Had the pool put in last year. The increase went into effect this year.

I was told by them a deck made your taxes go up, not a patio
