Just finished reading...........
"Defending Jacob: A Novel" by William Landay. It was sooooooo good, I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a really good read.

I didn't know what to make of it either. My feeling is that he was a sociopath and did kill his classmate and the girl on vacation. What about you?

i do agree with him being a sociopath and killing Ben and the girl on vacation, and it was def a twist on how he was there for his wife's murder of their son. it really threw me for a loop. but maybe i missed it, but was there the "murder gene"?

Yes, the murder gene was there in the grandfather (Bloody Billy), the father (Andy) and the son (Jacob). It was explained when the psychiatrist was going over her evaluation of Jacob.
I definitely believe Jacob killed Ben and the girl Hope. But I did not expect Laurie (Jacob's mom) to crash her car killing Jacob at the end!!!!!!!! 
My only question is did Laurie die too? Or did she survive the crash?

i think their relationship was over when he admitted who his family was & most definitely during his first trial, yes they took the vacation and i am sure they were hoping it was going to help but then Hope disappeared and i think that was it...

Any of us parents? I'm interested to hear another parents point of view. As a mom to 3 little ones, I feel like I side and relate with Andy. I feel like if my kid looks me in the eye and says "I didn't do it" I'd jump on the defense team and would do anything in my power to keep him out of jail.

i can totally relate to Andys POV i am a mom of 2 little ones almost 5 and almost 3 year old... but i can also see Lauries POV as well.
i would in my heart believe my child didnt do it, but i guess i would question what she was questioning, knowing the murder gene was there and she didnt know about Andys past until their son was arrested.
IDK, i can't say, it's hard to myself into those shoes... on one hand i see what she is saying on the other hand, these are my kids...
sorry i guess i am just too un decisive... lol

Same here. Just finished it last night. it started to take a weird turn at the very end and it seemed so out of character for Laurie to do that.
So I guess....Jacob really did do it? I was thinking that at the end of the book we would find out he really did it after everything they went through to defend him.
