Garmin Issues
I live in Manhattan and never get a signal with my Garmin watch right away, but lately its been so much worse. I accidentally switched watches with a friend recently (same model) and got a signal as soon as I walked out of my building! Today with my watch though, I ran to Central Park and stood there for awhile looking for a signal and STILL didn't have one! Anyone else have issues and have advice?
I am that runner that stands on the corner shouting profanities at their watch.

Garmin Issues
I hated how long it took the Garmin to get a signal. I used to run in Eisenhower Park. Since there were so many trees I had to wander around trying to get a signal (I was that runner that stood holding my watch up in the air as though it would help!). I ended up turning the watch on as soon as I walked out my door and usually by the time I got to the park it would get a signal.

Re: Garmin Issues
Mine, knock on wood, is pretty good, but I do have issues if it's at an event sometimes. What works for me is just putting it outside 5 minutes before I'm ready to go and letting it sit on its own on a chair or bench or whatever. If you're in the park, just rest it on something instead of having it on your wrist to let it try and lock in the signal. I find that sometimes helps. If you still are having issues, and it's not limited to CP (I find CP is tough sometimes, especially at a race), then perhaps it's the unit itself. But I would try this first.

Re: Garmin Issues
So standing in one place really does help then? Sometimes I'm just standing still and I see it go all the way up like its about to find the signal and then BAM the bar is back to the middle. I want to kill the thing! I'm going to try going out to an avenue instead of just starting it on my street--hopefully more sky vs. buildings will help!

Re: Garmin Issues
Does it help when you are at CP? Mine doesn't work by my apartment, but as soon as I get to the West Side Highway it's fine.
I'm also one of those people who stand on the corner cursing at my wrist. I get so freaking frustrated with it. You can actually borrow mine if you want - I'm clearly not using it for a while :)

It usually does works if I start it in CP, let's say because I'm standing waiting for a race to start, but when I run there and even when I don't turn it on when I lrave apt, it has trouble finding a signal as soon as I hit the park. Its like I need to run there and stand for 10 minutes waiting, meanwhile my friend's watch literally started tye second I walked out of my building. Maybe I can try yours to Lis-then I'll know my watch isn't the only dud.
