unique "housewarming" gift
we have a bbq to attend next weekend for family friends that moved into a new home a few months ago (but we just werent able to coordinate a time to visit them til now). its not an official housewarming or anything, but we dont want to show up empty handed. they have everything you can imagine for their home so we dont want to bring something generic. We want to give more than a bottle of wine/house plant but prefer not to give a gift card...any ideas????

Re: unique "housewarming" gift
Maybe some kind of sign for the yard or front door with their last name.
My aunt got us with our last name that was hand painted on slate with the year of our marriage.
Still one of my favorite gifts ever.
It's also probably too late for this, but someone posted here once a vendor who will look at a pic of your home and hand-paint it with last name and "Our first home" or whatever you want on it.
Can't remember who posted this though but I am pretty sure it's someone local.

Re: unique "housewarming" gift
Honestly, the best gift we got at our housewarming was GCs. We even saved some and used them later when we did need things.
Hmm what about an Edible Arrangement for dessert at the BBQ?
Do they have any of those Personalized family signs (like *last name* est. (year of wedding date)?

Re: unique "housewarming" gift
My mom got us a great wooden sign for our living room. Ours says "Work Hard and Be Nice" but I have seen all different ones. Might be a fun gesture. There are also those stone ABC ones, like Always say thank you, Believe, etc. We have one of those too, and I love it!

Re: unique "housewarming" gift
I used to always give a Tiffany key chain when my friends moved into their new apartments.
Maybe a sign (IF you know their taste)

fh's parents gave us a basket based off this poem...
''A Traditional Housewarming: Bread - So you never go hungry. Wine - So your life is always sweet. Salt - So there is always spice in your life. And a Candle - So you always have light.''

Re: unique "housewarming" gift
love the personalized yard stake/garden rock idea
I was going to suggest maybe a nice bottle of wine and a wine decanter, or wine glass charms. We received one from a friend when we moved into our 1st apartment, and it's great.

Re: unique "housewarming" gift
I was at This store over the weekend. it's in NC, but they do take order and there may be one like it here. They had really nice spice sets in the $35-45 range. One was like a regula pantry starter, then they had ssweet ones, ones for Indian cooking, etc. I would LOVE to get that as a housewaring gift.
In fact, we're eventually going to have a house-waring just to show everyone our apt. I know they will want to bring things, but they already spent money on shower and wedding gifts, so I was going to actually make it a theme and ask them to bring something for my spice rack or baking.
I like it because it's practical, if it's a unique spcie or spice set it might not be something they'd buy themselves (include some recipes or a cookbook), and it doesn't take up space.
