how much do you have to pay at first? Membership fee? Is it really worth using them? Do they same you a lot?

It was only like 25 bucks and that was for the service contract. Essentially they are brokers. They get you the lowest price and you would have to call to enroll with them to get that price, but essentially you deal directly with the oil company that you decide to go with and you get that oil company to come out to your house for service calls. I've been very happy with them and had no problems thus far.
Just call them up and ask them what their lowest cap price/fixed price is and with what company and take it from there.

No, but I have my father signed up with 1-800-OIL-HEAT. It's similar. He gets delivery and service through Windsor Oil but at a reduced price per gallon, about 30-40 cents below whatever market price is on that day. Service has been very good. There is a nominal membership fee of $25 a year. You save more than that on one tank refill.
It's cheaper because the company (through it's membership) can buy oil in bulk so they get a reduced price per gallon. I've known a few people who belonged to other groups over the years, sometimes through their place of employment, union or other organizations
