Does anyone else feel like Disney books are inappropriate for young children?
Ever since we went to Disney in the spring, we've gotten more disney everything. 3yo DS didn't watch movies until recently.
I just got a bunch of Disney books and every single one has inappropriate violence for a 3yo IMO. DS went to bed sobbing tonight because he was afraid someone was going to break into our house and take him away after reading 101 Dalmations. The previous Lion King book we had was for younger children but the newer book I got has an image of Simba sobbing next to Mufasa's body. DS kept asking what happend to Mufasa.
I don't think I will be reading more of these books to 3yo DS for a while.
Do your kids get upset when watching/reading these movies/books?
I feel like every Disney story has a dead parent or some type of other violence.

It's funny b/c we were watching Nemo the other day and I was saying how violent tese movies are. They are scary. I just think we grew up watching them and readin the books but I don't know if dd who is only 2 should be exposed to it. Hahaha
If it was bothering mh child I would stop reading for a few years until he understands it's only a cartoon.

Finding Nemo was probably one of the first movies DS watched. He actually stopped watching it in the middle of the movie last year because it was too scary.
He did love the Nemo show at Disney World. He also loves his nemo toys and puzzles.

I definitely think most of them are not appropriate for toddlers.
Cars was good for my 2.5 yo, so we took him to see Cars 2, and it was totally violent and inappropriate. DH agrees. He said it should have been rated PG.

totally agree...my 4 yr old still hasnt seen any of them in total....even the language is not appropriate like toy story the characters using words like idiot ...and of course the violence and i also dont like the suggestive things that are hidden too like beauty and the beast's character gaston (i think his name is)....after not being able to show even one of those disney movies in total i just came to the realization that they can wait and thats what im doing

Language is not good either - we just watched the little mermaid, so of course my almost 3yo dd repeats "my dad is going to kill me" and wants to know what a tramp is. Convos I dont want to have yet!

We just watched Beauty and the Beast for the 1st time and my dd FREAKED out at how mean the beast was and started screaming Daddy don't leave me Daddy don't leave me. She was just hysterical that a beast was coming to take her Daddy away. It broke my heart.

I agree as well. I loved the Lion King and Dh got it for me for christmas. I couldn't wait to see it with ds who is 3. When muffassa died I realized I had to explain what happened. Ds was confused when Simba grew up and looked like his father, ds thought muffassa died and came back to life. Now everything is did so and so die, are we going to die, did the worm died. All from a disney flick.
Cars was the same. DS first movie at the theatre was cars 2. Me and dh was shocked at how violent this was. Thinking a lot of this thankfully went over ds's head.

Yes! Ith the books I make up a lot of my own words and skip some stuff... We don't watch many of the movies, but they are definitely way over her head (3 1/2)

I agree about the language. DS loves the first Cars movie and some of the things they say in there are totally inappropriate for kids.
Calling cars morons and idiots.

Re: Does anyone else feel like Disney books are inappropriate for young children?
Yes. I am now very particular about which stories I read to her.
This is also why the only Disney movies that DD has seen are Princess and the Frog and Bambi.
We put on The Lion King and after a few minutes we took if off. The language was too "adult" for her. Same thing with Finding Nemo and Cars.

Re: Does anyone else feel like Disney books are inappropriate for young children?
I dont think they are violent at all. I think some of the ones I read are lame in they AVOID all confrontation and violence. Its part of the story.
Then again we grew up watching Road Runner and Coyote etc. My toons had death and violence etc. I see no difference. It gives me a chance to talk about it. At 3, AJ knows what death is and is beginning to understand what it means (permanent)
She's watching nothing more violent that I did. Bambi's mom dies with a gun shot. Stranger Danger of Snow White, Evil step sisters in Cinderella, Cruella Deville, etc.
ETA: we havent seen Lion King yet, just haven't gotten to it. But all the rest are her favs
Alladin Jungle Book Bambi (all versions) Beauty and the Beast Snow White Cindrella Cars (both) Toy Story (all 3) Nemo is a current rave LOL I just can't think of any she hasnt seen and loved.
