Cushings in dogs
The vet believes that my 10 year old cocker may have cushings. Once confirmed he said that it would be managed with pills....does anyone know how much this illness is going to cost? We do not have a lot of money.

Re: Cushings in dogs
We had Toby who passed away from complications from cushings. The pills where expensive if I rem correctly about $5 each. These pills need to be handled very carefully as they are chemo pills. He had to take them everyday for about 2 weeks. The tests for cushing are expensive as they have to test the level of coritsol. We did them 3 times at $300 a time. I researched the cost & 1 800 pet meds price matched for us. Its hard to regulate the meds as to much meds can cause side effects. We tried to the best we could for him for about 3 months & he just got to sick so we decided to put him to sleep. Have you had an ultra sound done yet? Do you know if its an adrenal gland or pituitary gland tumor? The pituitary gland one supposedly is the better of the 2. This is what Toby had. Its been over 2 years since Toby passed so my memory of it all is not great.
One thing I wish we had done was find a vet who was experienced in treating cushings. We felt our vet didn't do enough for him & it took us along time to get him diagnosed with it.

Ty, he is getting an ultra sound today.....I don't think he can handle the 8 hour blood test....he also has a seizure disorder. We will see what the results say.
