how old when learned ABC's

What ages were your kids when they could sing the whole ABC song, or count to 20, or know all of their colors? or all of the above :)

My oldest (who's 2.5 now) was reciting and identifying the letters of the alphabet at 22m. She started counting Right after she turned 2. Now at 2.5 she can count to 15, count backward from 5 and knows all her basic colors

Both my kids knew their alphabet song, numbers 1-10, colors, and shapes at about age 2. By about 2 1/2 my kids could tell you which letter was which out of order as well. HTH

my son and daughter were both counting and singing their ABC's by 18 months. My son knew all of his colors at this age as well. My daughter knows a few colors at this point. She is 18 months old.

Lol. Mine is def not doing algebra....

He's 2 years old... Exactly.
He can count to ten... But doesn't really get it. He will count that he has 4 feet.
He says everything is orange. 2 weeks ago he said everything is blue.

In my opinion, there is no point of rushing anything... We read with him, count with him, teach him words. He looks like he is on target when I look at him play with other kids a bit older than him.

Just seems like if he can't understand to
Poop in a potty... Teaching him how to read is out.

DS will be 27 months. Betweeen 24-27 months he could identify all the letters of the alphabet, but still can not sing abc song (but I don't sing it much with him)

he can count to 10 (by 20 months) and can identify all the numbers. He knows most shapes (including diamond and octogon) and colors.

My oldest i think could do all around 2.5.

My middle could count to 20 by 18 months, knew all the colors and by 2 could recognize all the letters of the alphabet.

My youngest at a little over 2, has a hard time counting to 10, she could recognize colors since about 15 months and has no interest in the ABC's other than recognizing the letters in her name to know if something is hers.

Every child is different and grows at a different pace.

My dd turns 2on Friday she counts to 15, counts backwards from 10, sings abc pretty much on her own sometimes we have to remind her of a letter. She knows blue, red, green,yellow,pink and usually purple.

John is 32 months..He can count to about 12 and sings the abc song.. But I don't think he knows what he's singing to be honest with you. He doesn't identify letters...I don't think we even try yet..oops. Bad parents here. He knows all his colors though... I'm good with what he knows...preschool Ned's to reach them something right?

DS knew his colors around 18 months and knew all of the letters by 20-21 months. I don't think he was singing the ABCs until closer to 2. He could count to at least 10 by age 2, but was still skipping a few of the numbers between 10 and 20 at that point.

My DS is 20m and can identify all letters and numbers 1-10.

He only gets to E when he recites the alphabet and when he counts to 10, he says 1,2,3,4,6,8,10 .

She will be 2 in September but was about 18 months when she sang the ABC's. Now she can identify almos every letter, basic colors and all shapes.

22-23 months or so for whole alphabet, count to 20 and could count backwards from 10. Colors and shapes came next, but he knew those before 24 mos.

My DS is 20 months old & he knows his ABCS & can count to 20, although he sometimes misses a couple of letters or numbers. I wouldn't say that he has mastered it yet, but he knows his letters and numbers up to 20 for the most part.

i think we are slow in ABCs

my son is 27 months and can count to 15 in english and spanish, knows all colors and shapes but has little interest in the alphabet. We are working on that now

DS knew all 26 letters receptively by 18 months. He could make all the letter sounds by 22 sounds. He didn't start talking until 25 months so it wasn't until 26 months that he could name all 26 letters. He's 34 months now and can count to 40 in 2 languages. I'd say he was counting to 20 by 30 months at the latest and knew his colors by then. He was a late talker but knew quite a bit receptively before he turned 2, including colors.

thanks for all of the replies! it just goes to show you how different all children are.

the reason i asked, was b/c i had toured a local pre-school program for 2 year olds, and the director said they teach the kids their ABC's and colors, and counting to 10.

when i told her that my son had been doing all of that for months, she acted like that was not the "norm"....but there really is no "norm" for learning these things. i was not looking to push his education or rush him, just surprised...and she insisted that most kids do not know these things even at 3, which i thought was incorrect...

..we decided to skip the 2 year old program. he gets plenty of social interaction and i am at home, so why waste money we don't have! Thanks everyone!
