No response to Clomid
I've been seeing an RE for about 2 months now for PCOS. She did a ton of blood work, sonograms and a hysterosalpingogram on me - everything seemed to check out OK but I don't ovulate.
She started me on Clomid but a sonogram showed that there was no prominent follicle so she prescribed be another week's worth at a higher dosage. Well....still no follicle.
She said I could try Letrozole but she didn't seem too confident that it will work. She basically told me IVF is my only option, she's nervous to do an IUI with injectables because I have a lot of follicles and she said she doesn't want to me to become Jon and Kate Plus 8 lol
The problem is - we have no infertility coverage so I'm paying out of pocket for everything! I'm so nervous that I'm going go the IVF route and still not get my BFP.
I guess I'm just looking for advice. WWYD? And if you've had a similar situation I'd love to hear what you did!
Thank you

No response to Clomid
I did two rounds of Clomid, and I had no response at all.
Then I moved to injectable IUI, but produced so many follicles, it was cancelled.
Then I moved onto IVF. I do have partial insurance coverage, though.
Good luck!

Re: No response to Clomid
I had no response to Clomid at all. I moved on to Gonal F injections and have never produced more than 2 dominant follicles on it (but did get a BFP 2x - one of those pregnancies resulted in my DS). They can monitor you and alter your dosage so you don't make too many. You never know how you will respond to a drug until you're on it. Some women have 4-5+ follies from Clomid. You never know. If you don't have coverage, I wouldn't just skip to IVF. That's JMO of course! Good Luck!

ITA everyone's different. i didnt respond to letrozole (not sure if it's much different from clomid except that clomid supposedly thins your lining) and was able to get pregnant on injectibles.
the first cycle i didnt respond to femara, so the doctor put me on injectibles. i o'ed so quickly that we missed it so next month, he adjusted me to a really low and slow dose. after 1 cycle, we found what worked and i got pregnant (i had a mc but it wasnt related). i wouldnt skip straight to ivf.

Re: No response to Clomid
I agree with the PPs. There's just no way to know how you'll respond to a medication until you try it. Worst case scenario, you try injectables and you have too many follies so you cancel that cycle. At least you learned how you'll react.
I ovulate on my own...I tried Clomid and still just ovulated on my own with 1 follie. So it basically didn't do anything for me. Tried injectables for both an IUI and IVF. For IUIs I actually stimmed longer, but at a lower dose and produced 3 follies. For IVF I stimmed at a slightly higher dose for fewer days but had 15 eggs retrieved. And I bet if I did either again, I'd still get a different outcome. You never know.
It's unusual for an RE to want to skip straight to IVF without trying a few IUIs with different protocols since that is so much less invasive (and cheaper!).

No response to Clomid
i wouldn't skip IUI's and go straight to IVF. Like everyone else said, you don't know how you will respond to a drug. I was on 3 different cycles of Clomid and different doses and on our last dose, which i was sure would do nothing for me is when i got my BFP with an IUI. If the Clomid didn't work, I was going to try Femara for the next cycle. With that said, i would try the injectibles...if they start you at a very low dose, you might be able to see how many follies you get without the number becoming too extreme. IVF is very invasive, just by its nature and many people have success with it, but i would try the injectibles with IUI first - you never know, you may just get your BFP with that alone. Worst case scenario, you would have to go to IVF anyway. Does your insurance cover any of thise protocol? Like Dr. visits? copays? prescriptions?

No response to Clomid
With clomid I got 1 follicle maybe 2 but once they upped it to 150 mgs of clomid and 3 days of follistim I finally produced more than 1. I have a bunch of gonal sitting in my fridge right now so if you need it ask. I'm going to give it all away once I'm 100% convinced this pg is going to stick.
