What Thermometer do you have for your little one?
Looking to get a new digital thermometer for my DS, who is 22 months. Which one do you have and recommend?

I have the exergen temporal thermometer. You scan their forehead with it. Sometimes it is easy to use, sometimes DS will try to grab it while I'm doing it.

Re: What Thermometer do you have for your little one?
We have the ear one and the forehead one, they both, never have the same reading, its so frustrating. One could say 103, and the other 100.3.
My ped uses an under the armpit thermometer.

This... The temporal and ear ones are never right with my son. Off 2-3 degrees every time he has a high fever...

We had the rectal when ds was an infant - since its suppose to be most accurate....
sometime when he seemed older(maybe after first birthday?) we switched to the ear thermometer.

I still use this with DS at almost 2yo. It's the only way I can get a really accurate reading. I'm actually dreading when i cant use it anymore.

I just got the Exergen temporal thermometer. I used to use a rectal because I had heard that it was more accurate, but if I took my son's temp with it back-to-back-to-back I would get 3 entirely different readings so I gave up on using it.

Same. I will only use rectal therm for DD. The others I've tried are just not accurate at all.

This.. LOVE it! Love it so much I bought another one for my aunt to use.
ETA: i have never and will never use a rectal on my daughter. The pediatrician never did/never does, why should I?
When she was a baby we used the under arm version.

Re: What Thermometer do you have for your little one?
I have the temporal and I worry about it's accuracy but there is no way in the face of this planet that my DD would EVER allow a rectal temp to be taken. No way. I can barely get a scan of her forehead without a meltdown.
But I really question the accuracy of the temporal one.

According to my dd's old ped you can't do back to back to back with an ear or rectal even if the thermometer says its ready because it can still have an altered temp internally and the child's body will be at an altered state because of the thermometer being there previously. He told me to wait 5 minutes minimum between taking temps for a more accurate reading.

Re: What Thermometer do you have for your little one?
My son recently had some virus and his fever was over 103 rectally... When I took him to PM Peds they did it with the temporal and got a reading of 100.9.. I had just taken it before we left the house (15 minute drive). They were like its nothing. I demanded they take it rectally and it was 103.2... That changed their tune... There is a big difference between the two temps IMO. Rectally has always been the best way to take it... I use the temporal on me. It always reads 98.4... Fever or not!!

I also use the rectal thermometer... my SIL is a nurse and told me this years ago, and my ped agrees, rectal is absoultely the most accurate reading you can get.

they use the same one in the hospitals so i would hope it's accurate

Re: What Thermometer do you have for your little one?
We have the exergen temporal thermometer.. but sometimes it really is 'off' with its readings. I never get the same reading twice. It's really frustrating.
If I am really in doubt about the reading I use the rectal thermometer which ALWAYS gives me an accurate reading. DS is 2 and while he doesn't love it - it is still manageable.

Re: What Thermometer do you have for your little one?
Until my DD was about 1, I used to use the rectal. Once she didn't let me use that anymore, we got the Exergen temporal. It is GREAT! I read the reviews first and it gave me good pointers on getting an accurate reading. (Put it on forehead, THEN press button, swipe over forehead, press button again and THEN lift. Don't take off forehead while on.) Look on Amazon--I got an awesome deal on mine!
