Community service ideas for young kids.
Looking for ways for DD to do some community service. She is in Kindergarten.
So far she wants to do a collection drive for old towels, bedding and linens for our local animal shelter. I'm waiting to hear from the principal to see if we can have permission to put a box in the lobby.
I plan for her to make Valentines for Vets after the holidays.
Looking for other suggestions.

Since she's interested in animals, she can make bird feeders out of pine cones and hang them in trees/bushes in your neighborhood parks. I do this with my class. We're providing a "service" to creatures of the earth, lol, helping them find food in the winter. We used to spread them with peanut butter and roll them in birdseed, but now that we ar e"nut free," we spread Crisco shortening first.

Re: Community service ideas for young kids.
Jcpennys and the salvation army do those holiday angels where there is the name of a kid and age on the angel and you can get them toys. I like that it's more personal then just throwing toys in a donate box. She could trick or treat for cans instead of candy for a local food pantry or trick or treat of UNICEF. There is a group of ladies in Amityville having a yard sale on the 22nd in order to raise money for a new playground at the Amityville beach. They are looking for donations of items to sell, she could see what she doesn't play with anymore and donate.

Re: Community service ideas for young kids.
I think she has two great ideas to start with. Here are a couple of others she may be interested in:
There is a beach clean up at Jones Beach West End starting at the Nature Center tomorrow (9/15) from 8am - 1pm all are welcome
Have you checked with your house of worship? Our Cub Scout Pack helps decorate Thanksgiving/Christmas boxes that hold dinner fixings for those in need.
Care package collections for deployed armed forces is a good one - even she only did one item like toothbrushes
