Support groups for family members of addicts
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any really good support groups for people dealing with family members who are struggling with addiction. I've looked up the nar-anon and al-anon groups, but I'm a little nervous to just walk in by myself. Are there any agencies that hold these types of support groups? (I'm in Suffolk)
Please feel free to FM if you're more comfortable.
Thanks

Al Anon is amazing. You shouldn't worry about just walking in, people do it all the time. They usually ask you to introduce yourself, first name only, and people are generally really friendly there. Al-Anon helped me through some tough times as a teenager. It's a fantastic resource.

Definitely Alanon. There are usually many meetings a week and it's free. Everyone there has been where you are, or is currently. It's a good place.

I agree, alanon Is totally friendly and open. Also if your family member is going to any treatment center or outpatient rehab they might have a family group that meets there. When my son 1st started going to N/A I went with him. Now he goes to AA even though alcohol is not his addiction because he likes the way they run it better. It's really key that your family member attends some sort of meetings too. It really does help! Good luck!
