Low tone and speech delay?
My son is 15 months. He is a very happy, cooperative and snugly boy... He has a generic disorder called Neurofibromatosis. He is already receiving early intervention for low tone... Just started crawling, starting to stand... Etc. he does not really have any words. He has decent receptive language and he babbles. So question is... Do I get him evaluated for speech now or wait until 18 months when thu do a full re-eval? Just curious to hear what others think...

Re: Low tone and speech delay?
My DS has low tone as well and feeding issues. We were able to add Speech 1x a week at our 6 month meeting (about 16 months) because of his diagnosis. Then at the next 6 months meeting we in creased his services because of his test scores. My DS also has normal receptive scores but low expressive scores so usually the EIOD has to read between the lines a lot.

Low tone and speech delay?
Hi Ladies, I have twins (10 1/2M) one of them is low tone/high tone. THe trunk is very low & the legs are high. He is finally sitting but can easily fall over. We have been getting EI since March ( 5 months) Did your twins ever wear splints on feet? WE have an appt for a development ped but not until 12/11. Can you reccomnd anyone? Are your children walking now? My guy has NO ISSUES eating.

Re: Low tone and speech delay?
Yes my DS wears AFO's (ankle/foot orthopedics). He started walking at 2 yr 9 months and six months later he still wears them. He can walk without them but very unsteadily. Our PT was able to get them for us through EI. We didn't have to see a developmental ped. The orthopedist comes to the house and makes the cast and brings back the brace about a week later and makes adjustments. My DS got them once how was able to pull to stand and trying to cruise around- closer to 2 for him. Ask your PT for suggestions for a doctor or if they want to order them through EI. I know there is a good one in Port Jeff that a friend went to.

Low tone and speech delay?
Hi there Bookmom,
THanks for responding & glad to hear your son is doing well. Since your DS had trouble walking, when did he start sitting? Our PT thinks that by starting splints now before walking this will help him. She is speaking to the orthotician this week I believe to see what he thinks & will come evaluate him if he agrees with what she says. Was your son babbling? Why speech? Can you also share his issues with the low tone? Were his legs low tone? My son's torso is low tone but legs are high tone.
