Ipod Touch or Kindle Fire
DD is 8, DS is 6. They both want an Ipod Touch and they'd love an Ipad. We're considering a Kindle Fire (7") for each of them as a compromise. They each already have a DS.

Re: Ipod Touch or Kindle Fire
I'm not sure about the parental controls on a Kindle Fire. We have iPod Touches for our kids which they do love & I can lock down sites, apps, etc.
I guess the big thing is what are they using it for? A Kindle Fire has a bigger screen so I'd lean toward that if you're going to use it for reading too.

Re: Ipod Touch or Kindle Fire
DD at age 3 got the itouch. She loves it, knows how to use it all by herself and it really is something great for the kids to have. Today is her 4th Bday and she is getting an ipad. She will love it and I think the nice big screen will be great for her and the larger keypad.

Re: Ipod Touch or Kindle Fire
IMO there is no way I would get a kid (of any age under 14ish) an ipad.
With that, my son(4.5yo), my nieces(6,7,9) and my nephews (11,9) all have the ipod touch and love it. We have more than gotten our moneys worth from that. HOwever for your ages, I would probably go with the kindle fire because of the bigger screen.
I plan on upgrading DS this christmas (well I broke the ipod ) to the kindle.
If you do get hte touch, keep in mind the size. When I bought ours I got hte 8g. This is fine if you just want games and such, but once you put a movie on it, it really eats away at the space.

Re: Ipod Touch or Kindle Fire
My six year old daughter has both the ipod touch and the kindle fire. The kindle fire is really good for ebooks, and movies, both devices are good for games, (learning and fun games)..but the touch is so much more convenient. The kindle fire is bigger and is a pain to bring with us to places like the mall, doctor visits, or other places where kids can't run around or play. I would definitely say the touch..but make sure to buy a good case. HTH
edited to say..that in a few weeks the ipad mini is going on sale. It's cheaper than the regular ipad and it's supposed to be similar to the kindle fire..just an fyi..

Re: Ipod Touch or Kindle Fire
We have both and my youger DD finds the ipod touch much easier to use and it fits in her hand and she can bring it anywhere.
Parental controls can be set up on both pretty much the same.

Re: Ipod Touch or Kindle Fire
I'm thinking of getting 4 yo ds the mini iPad they are coming out with. He loves my iPad, I don't let him use it that much
