Kindergarten graduation

I am on a committee at my daughters school and would love for the kids to have a kindergarten graduation. The principal at the school told me she doesn't think they should have one because the kids are not going into a new school. Can you tell me what school district you are in and if your child has a graduation even though they are not going to a new school? I have to make a list of all the schools that do have it to show the principal.

I have no idea if our school does one. I hope not, I personally think it's a little ridiculous. Especially since they do one for 5th grade, 8th grade and of course their REAL graduation.

We didn't do one for Kindergarten because they weren't graduating.

Nope, not graduating so no graduation.

As far as I know, our district does not have Kindergarten graduation. Only 5th grade because they're moving into middle school.

My kids go to Catholic school, so this may not help, but they did have a Kindergarten "graduation." Well, if I remember correctly, it was called a "Promotion Ceremony" and they did a bunch of things before getting their diploma from the Principal. They all went onto 1st grade in the same school.

Re: Kindergarten graduation

I teach kindergarten, and yes we have a graduation....it's actually a pretty big ceremony. They even wear little caps and gowns.

I am not sure if my school district does Kindergarten graduation, but the school where I work does not. I've definitely heard of K graduation, but never really understood the idea behind it (I understand 5th, 8th, and of course 12th - they're moving onto a new phase - but why K when they're staying in the same place?).

DS is 4. I thought kindergarten graduation was a given. I'd be upset if DS Didn't have one next year.

I thought the same with my dd. but they do a ceremony and give out the forms. I'm kind of sad there is no graduation ceremony

Same here, it was quite the event-- they put on a little play! I actually thought this was the norm for most schools.

Kindergarten graduation

DD's school does a Pre-K and K stepping up ceremony. The kids did a song, they showed a video of them from the beginning of the school year to the end, how they changed, etc. There was fruit, cake and the kids each got a shirt and goody bag.

Re: Kindergarten graduation

In our school they call it a stepping up or moving up can't remember ceremony but, it's the same thing really.

Re: Kindergarten graduation

Andrea, I'm sure you know OLP has a graduation. Here in Lindy; no graduation or any big deal at all.

They had a huge Pre-K graduation w/ caps/gowns though last year.

Bellmore and no K graduation. I, like your principal, see no reason for it if they aren't moving on to a new school. I was always surprised to hear when other people said their kids do have one.

They do something at 2nd grade when we move to a new school.
