Thanksgiving Appetizers

DH and I are on our own this year so I was thinking of just making appetizers to eat throughout the day while he is working and were watching football. We are vegetarians. Any suggestions? I would like to make it something Thanksgiving related.

Thanks

Thanksgiving Appetizers

Stuffed mushrooms, baked Brie with cranberries in puff pastry, you can make mini mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top in a mini cupcake pan, antipasto platter. You can have a lot of fun with this :)

Re: Thanksgiving Appetizers

I agree with the suggestion of the stuffed mushrooms and baked brie.

I actually do the baked brie bites using the frozen mini phyllo dough cups. I put some seedless raspberry jam at the bottom, a cube of brie on top of the jam, and top it with a pecan half. Bake at 425 degrees for 6-8 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.

I also make a pumpkin cheeseball -- I can dig up the recipe if you are interested. It uses a mix of cheeses (cream cheese, cheddar, etc.) and spice shaped into a ball (score the ball with a knife to make lines like on a pumpkin) and topped with a broccoli stalk for the pumpkin stem. I serve it with grapes, apple wedges, and crackers.

Another cheese idea would be cheese puffs -- I make homemade ones - or even TJ's fets and carmelized onion tarts.

A little different twist on this idea would be Ina Garten's recipe for savory palmiers, made with puff pastry, sundried tomatoes, cheese, etc.

My friend makes awesome spinach balls (made with stuffing mix and spinach) served with a mustard dipping sauce. She has a food blog, and you will find it under "Starters." She also has a recipe for mushroom rolls that might be a good alternative to stuffed mushrooms. Here is the link:

Also, what about a soup, like butternut squash? For a party, I would say serve in shot glasses, but for the two of you, maybe in sourdough bread bowls?

Or what about butternut squash ravioli with a dipping sauce? You could bake them instead of boiling them... you could even make your own using wonton wrappers or egg roll wrappers (in refrigerated produce section) as a short cut to making pasta dough.

I think this sounds like a really fun idea! Hope this gets you creative juices flowing.
