What would you do (birthday party related)?
I live in an area badly affected by hurricane Sandy. Back in September I booked DDs birthday at a local party place and paid $175 deposit (on my debit card). I know for sure there was damage. The party is supposed to be December 27. Many local businesses are opening or have signs they will open soon. I have been calling this particular place everyday with no answer. I just want to know if they will be open by then, and if not are they giving me my money back? DH thinks I should just call my credit card company, explain what happened and dispute the charges. Any advice?

is there a website? can you email someone there maybe to check? Maybe drive by or have someone drive by and see if it has a sign of when it will be opening?

I would look up with the state of NY who owns the business and what their contact info is. See if you can contact them that way. If you can't, then yes, I would dispute the charges but with a debit card unfortunately there is less protection than with a credit card. Hopefully someone will be able to help you.

I would probably forget about it and just see if the CC will reverse the charge based on this situation. I would come up with plan b if you still want to have a party.

I had DD's party booked at the Oceanside Bounce U which was destroyed. I emailed them since no one answered the phones and they called me to ask if I wanted my money back or if I wanted to reschedule it. They refunded my money that day.
Just email them. You'll get your money back.

I just checked their site it says closed until further notice :( I emailed them and I decided if I don't hear by Friday I'll call my cc company. Luckily I always use my debit as credit so hopefully I'll have some protection.
I just feel bad for dd. all she wanted was a party at this place. So many things around her have been destroyed by Sandy. It just makes me so sad for her
