If you are good with an iPhone please help me
I have an iPhone 4. I know I am about 6 months behind but apparently since I never upgraded to the new operating system, there are many Apps they won't let me download.
Everyone was telling me to just go to my general settings and there is a line that prompts you to the upgrade and it take 15 minutes. But there is no such option on my phone and nobody can figure out why.
So how do I do this? Do I have to connect my phone to iTunes on my computer? I have never done that. Is it going to get my phone all out of sync? Sorry I'm so lame but I just never had time to figure these things out!

Settings > General > Software Update
Do you have those options??
ETA: You shouldn't have to connect your phone to anything

Exactly!! This is what everyone says but there is NO "software update" option on my phone!

You may need to free up some memory first

ITA! I had to transfer 300+ photos off of my phone & into an external hard drive before I was prompted for the update.

Thanks. I am afraid to do this as I read online that it first deletes your entire phone and you will lose all your contacts, apps, etc. I am not so well versed in iTunes where I know how to backup, restore, etc. Maybe I'll just live without the new upgrade!

go to apple, they will help you.
From what I understand..if you didn't do the major upgrade a year or so back that required you hooking up to the computer and took a long time, you can't get the upgrade off your phone, you need to do it off itunes.

I just went through this too, you have to hook it up to iTunes on your computer, but back it up first, then update, then sync it I order to get your songs and apps back, this is what worked for me

When you plug your phone into the computer it syncs... that's the backup.

I had no problem upgrading my iphone a few months ago. Nothing got lost, but a few things are differently formatted.
