those schools that lost feb. break
how is your school dealing with teachers that already have vacation plans? curious how each school has responded to this

My AP said that school on those days will resemble a snow day bc so many teachers will be out. You have to use your days, but a lot of veteran teachers have tons of days and no problem using them so likely we will have the kids in the auditorium and the cafeteria and just monitor them similar to snow days. I bet this will be the case in many schools.

I'm thinking that in my district, you will have to either call in sick (you can only be out two consecutive days sick) or apply for personal days (unpaid, probably, unless you have your two left to use for some of the time).

In NYC it is my understanding that you can use your days w/o penalty. I *think* it is if your tickets were booked by 11.20 but I could be wrong.

i'm in a private school, and we haven't lost ours yet
i was freaking out though because we got married in august, and waited until february to take our honeymoon-no way was i cancelling my honeymoon i waited 6 months to take lol
i was told that if it came to cancelling the break, we could use our personal days for the break if we were planning on going away-i think we get 10 per year and then 2 sick days....

I'm in a district on LI and we are "allowed" to use our personal days for the days that we had to give up (we gave up 2-Thursday and Friday), as long as we show valid proof that a trip was booked prior to the date that this decision was made.

I'm in a LI district and we are not allowed to use personal or sick days that week. I assume you either lose your vacation or you get docked. Either way, those who have non-refundable vacations are out of luck.

In my district, if you booked a non-refundable flight before November 26, you can send a copy of your ticket to the superintendent and not get penalized for taking days.

We are losing the entire week. Teachers must use their personal days first and then sick days. - no penalty
We were asked to put in for the days now, b/c getting subs might be hard.
