Re: How old are kids these days when they stop believing in Santa?

End of third grade, I read "Superfudge" - I guess at least Judy Blume was the one that broke the news to me and not a mean older kid on the bus?
Seemed like everyone stopped believing by 3rd/4th grade.
I am reading that book to my fifth graders and mycoteacher and I decided to skip that entire chapter ....
I agree with those who posted that they will always believe in Santa for their children ... My mother was so great at keeping us guessing growing up .... My one sister said when she was like 19 or so " mom I am so glad you told me about Santa because my kids would have been sad on Christmas morning when there were no gifts."

How old are kids these days when they stop believing in Santa?
DS is 9 and this is it for him. He has said a few things this year that let me know he is very doubtful at best. I of course will never tell him there is no Santa. The Big Man still leaves me presents at my parents house!

What do you mean, Santa isn't real? Sure he is!

My parents told me when you stop believing Santa stops coming and I will do the same for my child.

To this day, my mom still says there is a Santa
She did all she could to never get caught - to an extreme
she had snow foot prints leading from the chimney, whiskers on glass of milk, and the handwriting was always different from hers.
one time she had santa come over for a visit - he walked down driveway (no car) and to this DAY, i still have no clue who it was. She still won't reveal who it was, and if I ask her, she says "it was Santa!"
it was always one of my favorite things about my mom - one of those small things parents do that never leave you.
I will be doing the same for my kids. There is a Santa!
That's adorable, brought tears to my eyes!

Re: How old are kids these days when they stop believing in Santa?
My son is almost 14 and still believes in Santa. Granted he has some developmental delays, but I sure as heck am not telling him the truth. He would spoil it for his sibling if I did anyway. He will believe as long as he wants to, but I would never just flat out tell him there is no Santa.

A Jewish kid in my 3rd grade class told me Santa wasn't real... I went home and asked my mom and she said he was lying to me but I never believed after that.
This happened to me too!!! I think it was younger than third grade. When I think about it - it kind of bothers me.

Re: How old are kids these days when they stop believing in Santa?
I have four kids, toddler through to older teens. I always told the kids that I had heard somewhere, "If you don't believe, you don't receive." I always try to keep things as magical as possible. EVen with my very bright teens, it has never been acknowledged or denied whether there is a Santa. (I KNOW my teenagers are not some weird kids running around believing in Santa, it should be noted!) In my experience, kids "test" to see what the response is, and although I subscribe to always being honest with kids, I take an exception to this one.

How old are kids these days when they stop believing in Santa?
I think Christmas is not the same for a child once they find out Santa is not real. Nowadays it is kids at School that usually start telling the younger kids that he is not real then parents give in and ruin Christmas for these kids. I blame the parents for not sticking to the story. Christmas and Santa are magical and i am sure you will all agree that Christmas was not the same once you found out. I think parents need to pretend and do everything they can to make it real for the kids to keep them kids for longer. There is too much going on in the world that makes kids grow up too fast. But Christmas is one time of year that you can do something about it. My parents did not give in to us until we were 11/12 before we went to the equivilant of HS and it was always just after Christmas when we found out. I loved them for this as we had a year to get over it. LOL Even though at this age we had a good feeling he wasnt real it was not confirmed. Radio stations and TV stations should never talk about things like that either at anytime of day or nigh as things get repeated etc with little ears listening. Sorry for the rant.
